Fredrick Fache was born to an average middle-class Parisian family in the year 1839. He had a perfectly ordinary life, and he grew up, aspiring to be one of the Paris's peacekeepers in it's police department. And that he did, rising to the rank of Lieutenant by the age of 32. He was a the top of his game, but he lacked any type of interesting events in his life; it was too.... normal.

That day would prove to be anything but.

One day in 1871 the chief of the Paris Police Department dispatched Fache and a squad to investigate the mysterious ciscumstances behind a disastrous fire at the Paris Opera House, where a masked man who had become known as "Le Fantôme de l'Opéra" not only caused the fire by knocking down the theater's chandelier but had also killed various people during the time in which he occupied the premises. The objective was simple; find clues leading to the whereabouts of the Opera Ghost, and apprehend him. But while searching the ruins, the squad found an amazing labyrinth leading down to the hidden basement of the Opera House, which had become damaged as the fire spread underground. Deep down, they found the Phantom's former base of operations, charred beyond recognition. At that time, Fredrick found a simple white mask among the ruins. He knew better than to mess with evidence, but the urge to put it on was almost irresistible; it was almost as if the mask ''sang'' to him. He picked it up; it seemed to emanate an almost otherworldly presence. He put it on, and all went black.

He woke up 3 hours later, not far from the Opera House. He was dressed in strange, shrouded clothing, and carried a rapier... a bloody one, at that. Through some flash investigating, Fache discovered he'd "become another person" when he put on the mask, according to the reports he found. He had quickly dashed into a secret room in the basement compound, put on the clothes and rapiers he currently had, and massacred his way to freedom. Not soon after, he was arrested for this act, and as the officers began to arrest him, the mask took control again.... this time, however, it was not a complete takeover, as before. It seemed the mask's mindset melded with Fredrick's, loosening his grip on his control..... on his sanity. He was able to be less brutal in his escapade, but even resisting to his utmost limit, the trail his sword left was still bloody.
