= History =
== Betrayal ==
Hel was born to Angrboda, a Jotun seer, in Jotunheim, the youngest child in her family. Her older brothers Fenrir and Jormungandr, doted on her, as good big brothers should, while her half- brothers and sisters, Skoll, Hati, Manigarm, Gerda, and Beli, barely seemed to notice her, mostly because they were so much older. When she was nine years old, Odin murdered her mother by trickery, and then took a band of warriors to Jotunheim to bring her, Fenrir, and Jormungandr to Asgard.
 
Once there, Odin cast Jormungandr into the Midgard Sea, chained Fenrir, and cast Hel out of Asgard, intending that she arrive in Niflheim.
== Redemption ==
Odin's casting was wrong. Instead of landing in Niflheim, Hel landed in the living room of a mortal human on Midgard. He did not see her half-dead state: he only saw a child, terrified and alone, her mother murdered, her father stolen from her by trickery, her brothers imprisoned or banished, and she herself cast out of heaven by one she had been taught to think of as her uncle, a good and honorable man. 

The man in whose home she landed adopted her as his own, and gave her all the love she had once had from her father, and his wife gave her the love of a mother. As she grew, the love she felt for them transformed, from love she gave out of gratitude, to love she offered as a woman and a goddess.

Hel knew what she was, and knew that Odin had cast her out because he was afraid of her, because he had no power over her. In fact, she had power over him. Knowing that, she lost her fear and decided to offer herself in love to the couple who had raised her for nine years.

When they realized she would not be dissuaded, the man and woman who had raised her accepted Hel as their wife, regardless of the laws of Michigan, because, after all, how can a mere government outweigh the desire of a goddess?
== Coming of Age ==
Now that she had reached her eighteenth year, and had convinced the man and woman she loved that she truly did love them as a woman, and not merely as a child, Hel decided it was time for her to begin contributing to the welfare of Midgard in ways other than the passive blessing she gave to the dead merely by existing.

Having grown up in Millenium City, Hel knew exactly how she wanted to contribute to Midgard's welfare: She would become a super hero. After some intensive research, on both her part and her husband's, they designed a device she could wear that would keep her power within safe levels when she was in costume, so she wouldn't accidentally destroy the city while attempting to stop a fleeing truck, or slaughter an entire building full of people when attempting to restrain a villain.
= The Present =
The day Hel chose to field test her limiter device coincided with the day the Qularr attempted to invade Millenium City. Satisfied with the results of her test, Hel has taken herself into the world as a superhero, her identity known to all the world. She, Hela, daughter of Loki, is proud to be who she is, and what she is, and is proud, as well, to be a hero protecting Midgard.
