Background and Origin

Early Life


Ella had made a name for herself as a gymnast and was a rising star on the Iris Olympic Team.
Ella Orwell was born to Ken and Jesse Orwell on February 14, 1989. She had her a fairly normal upbringing, though not necessarily a peaceful one. Ella's father worked as the city district attorney, and was occasionally targeted by some of the more organized crime syndicates. None of these threats ever harmed the family, but it did lead her parents to teach Ella self-defense techniques at a young age. With her parents pushing her, Ella became a black belt in Muay Thai at the age of 13. During high school she used the techniques she learned in these courses to become an all-state athlete in gymnastics and track. She also continued to take self-defense classes, picking up black belts in Taekwando and Krav Maga.

At Santa Bella State University Ella continued to excel as a gymnast. Her studies in physics left little time for her other activities, however. Deciding that earning her degree was more important than acquiring new fighting skills, she put her martial arts efforts on hold. While at a gymnastics meet she met Shane Hilton, a scout for the Irisian Olympics Team. He was so impressed with her skill that he asked her if she would consider joining the national team. Ella agreed on the condition that she was allowed to continue her education. She realized this would mean missing some competitions, but Shane agreed to her terms.

Within a few months Ella was a rising star on national gymnastics team. Shane had become one of her closest friend and the two had even started dating. While her gymnastics dreams seemed to be coming true, Ella did not let her academics fall behind. In April of 2012, she received her Bachelor's degree and immediately applied for graduate school in the fall. Things were going well, and even a sprained ankle that kept her out of the 2012 Olympics could not get her spirits down. Then, on November 21st, 2012 her life was altered forever when a drunk driver plowed into her car. Ella survived the wreck, but was severely injured. Along with several broken bones and a severe burns, Ella had also been blinded by the accident.

Project Awakening


While in the hospital recovering, Ella fell into a deep depression. All her goals now seemed out of reach, and she was unable to see any way of getting her life back on track. That is when VIPER recruiters showed up to offer a chance to join their Project Awakening, carefully leaving out the criminal elements of their mission. They said she would be studying the correlation between Omega Waves and the telekinetic lifting ability of humans. This sounded like a golden opportunity to Ella as it would get her back into research. She consulted with her parents, neither of whom were aware of VIPER's more sinister actions, and agreed to join Project Awakening as soon as she was able.

Of course, VIPER had never planned for her to do any research, and as soon their chopper touched down outside their Canadian outpost they drugged Ella. Waking up in a holding cell, Ella was greeted by Mindslayer who was consulting with VIPER. Any hope that Ella had to get out of her predicament was crushed as Mindslayer berated her in front the recruiters. VIPER scientists then came in and began injecting her with their experimental psionic serum. The injections left Ella extremely weak and she fell into a coma. Though Mindslayer said they had failed, VIPER pressed on with their experiments. Ella, however, remained comatose.

After four months of experimenting on a comatose Ella, Project Director Fang laid down an ultimatum. The scientists working on Ella had two months to awaken her, or they would be terminated. Desperate to save their hides, one of the scientist suggest that perhaps the changes to the brain could be accelerated allowing Ella to regain consciousness. Unfortunately for the scientists, the only way they could do this was to give Ella Draysha injections. After some debate as to whether this would contaminate the experiment, the scientists began a light administration of Draysha. Ella's condition began to improve rapidly, sending the scientists hopes soaring.

As Ella slowly regained consciousness, she was overwhelmed by the noise of thoughts surrounding her. This caused her a lot of pain both physically and mentally. Again Mindslayer suggested disposing of Ella, and it seemed that VIPER agreed. However, Ella had overheard their plans thanks to her new telepathic abilities and had begun to plan her escape. With no idea of what she was capable of and no time to train, Ella figured she would have to wing it.

Fortunately, Ella received assistance in the form of a Steelhead raid. Using the distraction, Ella quickly escaped her cell and began to test her new powers. She quickly discovered that she could use her telepathy to see what others were seeing. Ella began to use this to her advantage as she telepathically probed her escape route. She had made it to the base armory when she encountered the first Steelhead forces. They quickly escorted her out of the base and back to Force Station Steelhead.

Psionic Constructs

Oracle's gifts are primarily evidenced in her ability to create psionic constructs. These are limited only by her imagination, and thus make her a very versatile combatant. Each construct is capable of behaving like the physical object it is imitating, allowing her to create very effective weapons with them. Also, these are capable of causing physical damage such as cuts and broken bones. However, she usually uses these constructs to scare her opponents and, if necessary, simulate pain in their minds. She commonly uses sword constructs for close-quarters combat and missiles for ranged attacks.

Telepathic Abilities

Telepathy - Telepathy is perhaps Oracle's strongest gift. While she does not generally use it to avoid combat, it is invaluable to her as it allows her to better attack her foes with psionic constructs. She is fully capable of taking over someone's mind and body, but finds the experience too surreal for her tastes.


Omni-vision - A unique manifestation of her telepathic powers, Oracle has the ability to see the world from almost any point of view. She can see through another person's eyes, a camera's lens or even her own psionic constructs. The downside to all of this is that it can be slightly disorienting when she uses this power, as she must adjust to her new perspective of the world.


Precognition - As a test subject in VIPER's Project Awakening, Oracle gained some minor precognitive abilities. This has allowed her to successfully evade situations where she or her friends should have died. This power also served as the inspiration behind her name.

Skills


Gymnastics- Ella was a world class gymnast prior to losing her sight. While her new-found powers may prevent her from competing professionally, she still possesses extreme athletic ability.


Martial Arts - Ella holds three black-belts and is more than capable of defending herself from close quarter attacks even without the use of her superpowers.


High IQ - While not on the level of the super-geniuses of the world, she has no problem with advanced theoretical physics, mathematics, and other fields. She has found this ability to be useful against some of her more formidable opponents.

Enhanced Physiology - As a result of VIPER's experimentation, Ella is tougher and heals faster than the average human.


Mental Juggernaut - Ella is top level psionic telepath, meaning that her mental defenses are nigh impenetrable.

Weaknesses


Only Human - Despite all her psionic powers Oracle is only human and thus susceptible to bullets, knives, and magic.


Blind - Should someone ever prevent her from accessing her powers, Oracle is blind. This can leave her very near defenseless when done correctly.


Family Ties - Ella is a very protective person. Targeting anyone she considers family is a gamble, but can yield a strategic advantage over her.
