A Brief History
The son of millionaire industrialist Hikaru Tanaka, Anthony Tanaka inherited his father’s company when he was 23 after a plane crash claimed the elder man’s life. Since then, Anthony has used his own smarts – both in business and technology – to surpass his late father and become a billionaire industrialist in his own right, leading Tanaka Industries into a golden era of success.
Anthony grew up without knowing his mother, a mistress his widower father took during a trip to America, and was raised in such a way that he was never left wanting for anything. He’s very privileged, very spoiled, and very used to talking his way into getting whatever it is that he wants. He loves attention almost as much as he loves living a life of luxury and excitement, and he aspires to continue setting the bar higher and higher just to see how long he can continue surpassing his own expectations.
His love of adventure and attention led him to create a suit of powered armor and adopt the mantle of Aegis, beginning a sideline career in superheroics. He keeps this dual-identity a secret – why, he isn’t entirely sure yet, but it probably has something to do with having fun knowing something that no one else knows – but readily acknowledges the Aegis suit as a creation of Tanaka Industries, utilizing his creation in the name of publicity.
Anthony was approached by Harold Lockheart to provide funding, scholarships and equipment for the Halcyon Academy, and he agreed without a second thought. During the same meeting, Lockheart invited him to also provide mentorship to the students in his role as Aegis. After a bit of hemming and hawing over having been figured out, he agreed, on the condition that the information would not go beyond the two of them.
To date, his identity remains a secret, save for perhaps a half-dozen individuals that he has personally entrusted with his secret.

Halcyon Academy
While Anthony Tanaka is one of the school's primary investors, it is via Aegis that he conducts most of his day-to-day contact with the school and its students.
As Aegis, he serves as a mentor to the school's student body, helping teach those who wish to become heroes how exactly to go about it. Unlike most of his fellows, he does not do this in a classroom. Rather, he'll often swing by with a task that needs doing, select a group of students to accompany him, and go galavanting off to fight crime with them, only interceding when he thinks they need his help. He provides suggestions and critiques on their techniques, answers any questions they have, and, when the occasions arise, offers instructions in the various methods he uses when following leads and otherwise doing some of the less explosion-oriented aspects of crime fighting.
Tanaka Industries
Previously headquartered in Tokyo, Anthony moved Tanaka Industries' primary facilities to Millennium City following the Battle of Detroit at the urging of Split Infinitive, an old family friend and superheroine with a vested interest in the area's recovery. He has never regretted the move.
As a company, Tanaka Industries has its hands in all manner of technologies, from government arms contracts to medical supplies. Cybernetic prosthetics and home computers are two of their most successful areas of business. Thanks to Anthony's expert and very attentive leadership, the company has sustained both its profits and its ethics.
One of his pet projects (and his personal pride and joy) is the LifeForge Artificial Personality Intelligence. The LifeForges were conceived as an AI that, while bound by hard-coded rules such as "Do not go all SkyNet on me or so help me God," would be able to learn and adapt through their own experiences and develop personalities that were uniquely their own, just as human beings do. Although an early prototype of the system was faulty and is currently running amok in an equally obsolete version of the Aegis armor, bitter about having been discarded, Anthony remains convinced that the LifeForges are a wonderful idea and are his proudest accomplishment to date. Not only does his home have its own LifeForge matrix that has an uplink to his office and suit (Trinity), but Split Infinitive also has one in her home (Astraea) and Halcyon Academy's LifeForge serves as the primary testbed for the latest builds once they complete their rigorous troubleshooting passes and are deemed ready for use in the field (Holly).
