Aylaesca Stormsinger is a woman who claims to be an escaped leader of a kingdom of people known as the Flohmen. Weilding impressive powers of the wind, she can call down powerful gales and magical forces with little more than her own voice.

Origins

Early Life in Ardunfel

Aylaesca was raised in the alternate-reality version of Earth known as Ardunfel. As far as Aylaesca could remember, the world basically consisted of two factions; the Fenluex empire of the north, spanning several thousand miles across land, and the Flohmen kingdom of the south. Aylaesca has learned from folklore that the Fenluex had once been a small village which, after receiving advice from a prophet, militarized and began to grow at a violent rate. So far, only the Flohmen kingdom has been able to stand up to the Fenluex' might.

This is in part of the kingdom's unique gift: the Stormsinger Clan. True to their name, Stormsingers are a long lineage of powerful mages that wield the power of the winds and storms. With a single concentrated shout, they can call down precision strikes from the heavens, in forms of cyclones and bolts, to accomplish great feats of defense and agriculture. Because of this unique gift, the Stormsingers have been hailed constantly as the Flohmen's sovereign leaders and military generals.

And with Stormsinger blood came a traditional set of hereditary traits: A strong sense of justice, a showing of great courage, and a sense of loyalty that was unwavering. These were all traits that, time and time again, were shown by past sovereigns. Supposedly because of their traits, this was what made them so impeccable at holding the line against the massive empire that lay north. Too bad that Aylaesca showed little of these traits. Rather than preferring to learn the ways of battle tactics or swordfighting, Aylaesca was content with her more serene hobbies, including pet keeping, literature, poetry, and using her voice both to entertain visitors to the castle and water their crops. She proved to be a very popular princess during the time her parents were in the throne, but as she grew to maturity, concerns began to rise among the royal staff of whether or not Aylaesca would be really cut out for the job.

Soon, her parents had been rendered unable to take the throne due to mental illness, and Aylaesca was forced to take rule at the young age of 17. Now, she would have to use her voice for the first time to fend off enemies of the kingdom, as well as make other important decisions. Fortunately, Aylaesca had a decisive and effective mentor in Balgarn Misthaven, the Flohmen Kingdom's court wizard, chief advisor, and co-leader of the Flohmen knights. It was thanks to Misthaven that Aylaesca was able to master her control of the winds and cast powerful curative magics. Still, even with his guidance and consideration, Aylaesca's docile demeanor did not shift.

Kingdom in Ruins

Balgarn Misthaven: Aylaesca's mentor and ally.

Push came to shove between the factions, and by the time Aylaesca was 21, the Fenluex launched their initial attack against the kingdom. Charging into battle with mage-knights and flame wizards, the Fenluex threatened to cause grievous damage to the kingdom's lands, and especially had their eyes on a quick and decisive victory by focusing their initial attack on the young, inexperienced sovereign. Aylaesca was initially prepared, and used her voice to call down cyclones and lightning to crush and burn the invading force.

Even if she was successfully stopping the incoming enemies, wave after wave of new soldiers followed them in, ready to die for their empire and destroy the kingdom. As she continued to use her powers, she began to ponder about the people she was striking down, wondering what they were truly fighting for. True, she had been told that Fenluex soldiers should be thought akin to pond scum, but she implicitly knew better. She had read books in the library, some containing poems and songs from the northern empire; poems of lamenting widows fated to never see their husbands again due to wars, and magnificent psalms inspired by the god the empire worshiped, loved, and would sincerely sacrifice themselves for. Even if she was told that they were scum, she knew that only people with clear consciences and great passion were capable of such thoughts. Soon, Aylaesca's power began to falter; Not because she did not have any energy left, but because she could not bear to see more bloodshed.

As Aylaesca retreated back to her quarters, ashamed of her inability to defend her kingdom, the Flohmen knights charged into battle against the remaining invading force. They were able to rout their foes, but not without their own losses. Recognizing that their sovereign would need ample time to recuperate from this traumatic experience, thanks to quick communication via Balgarn Misthaven's magic, the knights made a sacrificial move to cripple the Fenluex's remaining military facilities, making a brief stint to raze any barracks and keeps they could find by the Flohmen perimeter. It would certainly keep an attack from rolling in for a while, but with their own group of soldiers mostly depleted, would they be able to rebuild in time for the empire's next attack?

As far as Aylaesca was concerned, she'd rather die than either slay more of the invaders or bear the indignation of refusing to step up and defend. Misthaven, however, was prepared to give young Aylaesca further guidance. Partially due to his sincere concern for the young queen, and partially due to his own curiosity, he made a deal with Aylaesca; he would defend the Flohmen kingdom, while in exchange, he would use an experimental portal spell to teleport Aylaesca to a different realm. Misthaven made three requests to the princess: That she both keep in contact with Misthaven, promise to return to her kingdom, and make sure to further hone her combat abilities up-close. After all, if she could not stand up for herself, she would not be able to stand up for her kingdom.

Earth

"Miss Stormsinger" patrolling Millennium City's skylines

Misthaven's portal transported Aylaesca to the metropolis of Millennium City - That is, Millennium City during a Qularr Invasion. Aylaesca, in a bit of a daze, tried to explain herself to the nearby Officer McAvoy, only to be rebuffed as a civilian and told to evacuate. McAvoy's assessment changed when, after being assailed by Qularr Drones, Aylaesca warded them off with a whirlwind. McAvoy gave her full permission to take to the streets and fight.

As far as Aylaesca knew, the Qularr were not humans - unlike the Fenluex soldiers of the north, these were the monsters of folklore. Aylaesca was swift to show no mercy, and quickly cut her way to the Champions HQ. Having her first battle against a human with Black Talon, she developed a technique of using just enough power to nonfatally incapacitate her foes. A much more satisfying outcome than a decimated body. When it came down to a life-and-death situation, Aylaesca was able to use her power to her fullest, and learned a way to use her power in a satisfactory fashion.

Following the battle, Aylaesca's traditional Flohmen dress was in all but tatters. Initially, she was afraid to step outside the Champions HQ in fear that her pitiful appearance would divert any praise, but Defender was able to reassure her. As he expected, Aylaesca was greeted by the cheers of the people she had been responsible for saving with her storm abilities.

This incident had caused something to click inside Aylaesca: She was not a killer or a tyrant. Her training back in Ardunfel was not to make her a killing machine, responsible for only driving back the northern invaders. She was much more than that to both the people who stood before her, applauding, and to her own people she had cowardly abandoned. She was a hero, responsible for defending them from wrongful attackers.

As soon as she could, she managed to set up a spell to contact Misthaven and tell him of her epiphany. Misthaven was certainly pleased, but was still unsure if Aylaesca's conscience was really ready to handle the rage of large-scale combat. After all, nonlethal force would be quite impractical for such wide-range use of powers, and the foes Aylaesca had faced were most certainly not of full human flesh and blood. She would need to further her horizons to really get a feel on how to master her skills. That, and Misthaven is unsure on how to summon a counterportal to get Aylaesca back to Ardunfel.

Aylaesca made the best of a bad situation. Tailoring both her traditional dress back to shape, and getting materials to create a more battle-friendly garb, she put together an alias and became the Millennium City superhero: Miss Stormsinger. Her career proceeded fairly smoothly, and she soon began to deploy herself further and work in remote locations. As time went on, however, she began to hear back less and less from her mentor, and she began to fear for the worst. After just 7 months, her fears were mostly confirmed as she was assailed by Magnus Arette; the emperor and high priest of the Fenluex kingdom. There was only one way he would have been able to make it to her location; if he had somehow gotten the information on how to perform Misthaven's portal ritual.

As far as she knew, her best friend and mentor was now dead; killed by the hands of the man who she had feared to fight her entire life, just because she had recognized the Fenluex as people. Even in such a kind and gentle heart, there was now no mercy left for them. She was ready for war. From that point on, she dropped her alias, and returned to using her true, Flohmen name, and began to disclose her tale for the world to hear.

Aylaesca, at heart, is very gentle. Intrinsically opposed to violence and bloodshed, she can seem somewhat impractical at times, and even cowardly. Despite such meekness, she can easily be driven to action if she recognizes attackers as threats to either herself or her friends.

Despite her shyness and general low self-esteem, she is extremely talented. She is well-read, and is known for her poetic writing and her singing. She has a great soft-spot for animals, and has great respect for nature and natural phenomenons. Her favorite way to unwind is to just watch a vista and sing, shifting the weather and changing the lighting and atmosphere of the area slowly to fit and evoke emotions within her.

Combat Specifications

Aylaesca's magic voice summons mighty gales, and her learned spells balance her out with defense.
Aylaesca's natural talent is her Storm-summoning songs, which can be used to call down various weather conditions either gradually or rapidly. Soft, slow chants can be used to clear the sky or bring rains, while her faster and louder shouts can call down lightning to accurately and swiftly strike down foes. Even her direct voice can be used as a weapon in this manner, as the force of her voice often forms gales and whirlwinds that force back and slice at her enemies.

Aylaesca has also broadened her abilities by learning both Healing and Protective magic. She usually can withstand an above-average degree of damage when ready for combat, and can also summon up a solid wall of protective energy to shield herself in a pinch. Her healing abilities, though normally made to revive dead plants, have been adapted by her to be usable on allies as well. However, this power is somewhat tolling on her health and can cause her pain if she uses her healing magic too rapidly.

Aylaesca is not much of an athlete, only as strong, agile, and fast as an average human. She can use her magic to enable her to fly at around 30 miles per hour, however.

OOC

  • She and Judgement are yet another mutual Nemesis pair.
  • Originally was pure wind, but after giving that honor to Torrent, she became a fusion of support and wind attacks. Some weird tank thing, considering her above-average defense, high heals, and her best attack being a self-centric AoE.
  • I lied about Apoplexy. This character's also from an entirely different dimension.
  • TLDR version: Imagine if a Disney princess was the Dovakhiin/was put in Ulfric Stormcloak's shoes.
  • SPOILER:Balgarn Misthaven isn't dead; Judgement just figured out how to recreate the same spell from an ancient Flohmen relic.
