Background and Origin

Brightsteel or Alexandra "Alex" Diana Bishop was born in Bosaton, Massachusetts. She grew up in a middle class family. Her mother, Kara, an elementary school teacher and her father, Andrew, a police officer. She was born with a twin brother, Jonathon. At the age of 14 she was on a car ride home from school with her father and brother when an out of control vehicle struck their car head on. Her brother and father were killed instantly while she, crying in the floorboard of the backseat realized her skin had turned into a shiny steel like metal. When the police and ambulances arrived they were unsure how she survived. She was too in shock to explain anything at the time.

A few months after the accident, to help Alex and herslef cope with the grief of losing their family, Kara moved Alex and herself to Indianapolis, Indiana where her mother was offered a job teaching. Since her accident, Alex was unable to explain how she survived. Her mother thought it to be a miracle from God, but Alex knew there was something more going on. While in her sophmore year of highschool, Alex attempted a number of things to harm herself. For example, she jumped from a water tower to see what would happen. Just before she hit the ground her body transformed intot he same metallic substance it had from the night her father and brother died. She tried to enter a burning building where firemen were trying to put out the fire. Again her skin transformed protecting her from harm. Only this time the metal was different. Almost like it had changed to suit the situation. She tried a few more times before coming to the conclusion that she had been born with super powers. She immediately told her mother who thought her crazy until she decided to show her. Alex took her mother to the same water tower and when Alex lept from he top her mother screamed, thinking Alex was trying to take her own life. Just as before her skin transformed into the metallic substance it had before and her mother stood next to her speechless. After a moment she hugged Alex and told her that she was given a gift and she should use it to protect others, but not before she graduated college of course.

Alex attended Carmel High School and graduated in the top 15% of her class. She attended IU State and got her degree for teaching. She now teaches elementary at the school where her mother is now principal.

During a trip to Millennium City, Alex was thrown in the middle of a conflict with PSI. She helped where she could by saving a few citizens and realized that she had a secondary mutation. She was able to psionically shield herself and others from psychic based attacks. This only works while she is in human form, however, in her armored form she retains the psionic immunity to herself. She also met Witchcraft on this fateful trip. Witchcraft thanked her for her actions in saving the lives of citizens and helping stop Medusa and Mind Slayer. She was named an honorary member of The Champions.

Powers and Abilities

Organic Steel Form: Brightsteel possesses the ability to convert the tissue of her entire body into an organic steel-like substance. This substance resembling steel is of unknown composition. She is able to transform into this armor-like state at will (the process is virtually instantaneous) and remain in that form for an as yet undetermined amount of time. Once in her armored form she remains so until she consciously wills herself back to normal. If she is rendered unconscious, however, he spontaneously reverts to his normal form. While in the armored state, Brightsteel possesses the same degree of mobility that she does in her normal form. Brightsteel cannot become partially or selectively armored; her body is either entirely converted or not.

Superhuman Durability: In her armored form Brightsteel is invulnerable to most forms of bodily harm. Her armor is capable of withstanding ballistic penetration. She can survive extremes of temperature from 50 degrees above absolute zero (-410 degrees Fahrenheit) to approximately 9000 degrees Fahrenheit. She can survive a collision/explosion of a force in excess of 75 tons. She can also survive falls from great heights while in her armored body.

Superhuman Stamina: In her armored form, Brightsteel generates fatigue toxins at a much smaller rate than that of a normal human. At her peak, she is able to exert herself for several days before her body generates enough fatigue toxins to impair her.

Superhuman Strength: Brightsteel is able to lift and hurl objects in excess of 25 tons.

Situational Biomorphic Adaptation: According to the current situation her metal body instantly adapts itself to give her the resistances she needs to withstand the incoming assault. These resistances are determined by the situation she is in and her body adapts accordingly to the situation at hand. The variety of Brightsteel's resistance manifestations appear to be almost limitless. She can also manage more than one resistance at a time.

Psionic Shield: While in her human form, Alex possesses the ability to erect a psychic shield for protection of herself and the minds in her current vicinity. She is immune or highly resistant to any/all mental intrusion, including psychic or empathic powers, hypnosis, illusions, deception, etc. Mind readers only “hear” static, while mind controllers are incapable of manipulating her or those she shielded. She is unable to use this ability while in her armored form.

Psychic Immunity: Brightsteel is completely immune to telepathic powers in her armored form, but in turn, she is unable to use her own telepathic powers until she returns to her human form.

Gear and Equipment

Battle Hammers: Brightsteel has a set of hammers fashioned specifically for her into a set of gloves that she uses while in battle. The hammers are linked directly to her Ion suit allowing them to be attuned to her powers and will change accordingly to fit the situation, however, they are not as durable as Brightsteel and can be broken.

Ion Suit: A leather suit made from ion particles which are attuned with Brightsteel's powers and can can grow and shrink in size depending on her current form. In addition it is also like a wearable computer. It gives Brightsteel constant mental updates on her current physical and mental conditions and also provides warnings for when she is about to reach her limitations while using her abilities.

Communications Belt Her belt doubles as a communications and listening device. She is able to keep in contact with anyone that has the frequency of her belt, which constantly changes to keep her location safe from enemies. She can also monitor all police scanners and radios within a 100 mile radius.

General Perception

Alex is normally very shy but once you get her talking you can hardly shut her up. She is very friendly and kind and willing to give the shirt off her back to see someone else's happiness. She is a hardcore animal activist and loves dogs specifically. She owns three labrador mixes; Bella, Midnight, and Socks. She is not famous int he hero scene and prefers it to stay that way. She believes she is not cut out to be a hero with standing such as those in The Champions. Talk to her. Get to know her. You might like her! :)
