"Saint Anthony said, in his solitude, he sometimes encountered devils who looked like angels, and other times he found angels who looked like devils.
When asked how he could tell the difference, the saint said that you can only tell which is which by the way you feel after the creature has left your company."

Origins

When their daughter was born Hugh and Abigail Ashdown wondered how much, if any, of their abilities would be inherited by young Brittany. That question was first answered when her amber eyes blinked up at them from the confines of the blanket the infant had been swaddled in. Hugh would later joke that the reflective nature of those eyes made him wonder if there wasn’t a little werewolf sprinkled into his daughter’s bloodline. His wife of course denied such an occurrence.

At fourteen months Britt, or Ella as her father called her, wasn’t just walking, she was shadow stepping her way through the house, often scaring the bejesus out of her parents and unsuspecting nannies.

By age three Britt was engaging in lengthy conversations with invisible “monsters” in the homes of friends and relatives. This was never an issue in their own home as Hugh and Abigail had long ago taken steps to ward their home from such intrusions.

It was at age eleven… when Britt walked into the study and announced to a roomful of Hugh’s associates, “Hey, watch this!” before proceeding to summon a divine blade and shatter a priceless vase… that the Ashdowns decided it was best to sit their daughter down and tell her the truth about her heritage. The truth, was not only did she come from a long line of Nephilim Shadow Hunters, but she demonstrated abilities that exceeded those either of her parents possessed.

Training

While her parents taught her the basics of their way of life it would take a bevy of instructors and so-called masters to aid Brittany in both realizing and controlling the true extent of her powers.

In addition to conventional shadowhunter practices she was schooled in the martial arts, taught to wield traditional weapons as well as control her body and mind through meditation and breathing. As she progressed she was allowed to accompany her elders on assignments. Only it was Britt who was able to sense the presence and warn of demonic dangers long before any of the more seasoned hunters could.

With time she became one of the elite hunters within her clave, a fact that caused great worry as many felt she was too immature to wield this power at such an early age.

A Move to Millennium City

With a rise in demonic activity in Millennium City the local clave sent word to England that reinforcements were needed. Britt jumped at the opportunity to experience life abroad. The elders were less enthusiastic but after much persuasion and an airtight cover that would find Britt enrolled in a local university the clave had no choice but to acquiesce to Ms. Ashdown’s request.

Personality

While Britt’s humor can at times be gruff and abrasive those close to her will tell you that she has a heart of gold. Fiercely loyal to her friends she’ll go to great lengths to aid them in times of need.

While she's quick to threaten those who cross her she does adhere to a moral code. Banishing downworlders or demonic entities will often be done without so much as a second thought, but taking the life of a human is strictly forbidden in her culture. The Nephilim were created to protect the human population, not harm them. She will however take a strong stance when it comes to protecting the innocent where human-on-human crime is concerned. She’d never go so far as to take a human life and betray her oath, but she’s not above walking that line when circumstances deem it necessary.

In her daily life Britt can be a bit wry and sarcastic but truly loves being amongst friends and enjoying life. At heart she’s still a young adult living out her dream of attending college in the States while meeting new and interesting people.

Allies, Associates & Adversaries

Emma Mason - Britt’s best friend in Millennium City. The two met when Britt unwittingly included Emm as an integral part of a revenge ploy she was executing against a fellow student, who by the way totally deserved it. The plan went off without a hitch and when Emm chose to not rat Britt out the two became fast friends, inseparable ever since.
