An activist seeks to actively encourage or discourage a change in politics or society. There are many grounds upon which an activist platform may be employed, including (but definitely not at all limited to) human rights, environmental preservation, and economic reform. Common activist tactics include (but again are not limited to) boycotts, letter campaigns, rallies, street protests, pickets, and ad campaigns.
