General
A highly talented girl with potent psionic abilities, trained in the arts of telekinesis. Not remembering the details of how her powers were unlocked due to psychological trauma, most likely, she now seeks answers to those mysteries while at the same time trying to make the most of her unique gifts. She has taken up the name of Dark Emerald to that goal.
Appearance
Young and slender, she is rather pretty if a bit unsettling due to her unnatural qualities. Her skin is a dark-grey, and her eyes like green gems. Her green hair she typically wears in pig-tails when in her hero costume, which is a special metallic alloy that is highly flexible, strong, and lightweight. When not fighting crime she prefers wearing jeans and a t-shirt with her hair down.
History
Origin
During a lunar eclipse back in October of 2004, young Sarah Allen was abducted by an insane occultist named Jacob Nelson. He murdered her parents, but what his exact plans for her are unknown. The night of the eclipse he was performing some strange ritual, but something went wrong. There was an explosion at Nelson's house, and all that were inside were presumably killed. Only Sarah survived, walking out of the fire with only bruises and scratches but bleeding green blood and her appearance radically altered and no memory of her former life.
Netheros and the Visionary Institute
Dr. Nathan Netheros, a specialist in mystic affairs and founder of the Visionary Institute (also known simply as VI), took custody of the young girl after that night. With VI's help, she learned to better control her powers while also continuing her high school studies. Netheros was also quite taken by the girl and adopted Sarah as his daughter, having never had children of his own.
Biological Anomoly
For the past five years, PRIMUS has been working with VI to understand the exact nature of Sarah's unique condition. Initial bloodwork shows nothing physically unusual from normal human blood aside from its distinctive green color, and chemically it is the same. Paradoxically, however, Sarah's blood seems to have an affect on those who imbibe it as it induces a strange and chaotic delerium not unlike some kinds of illicit drugs.
There are many rough theories as to what has happened, all that range from an as-of-yet unclassified alien symbiote to magical influences. Nothing has been conclusive, so to this date just what has happened to Sarah remains a mystery. There has also been no explanation for her memory loss, as she has no physical head trauma that is typical of most amnesia cases.
Sarah's metabolism is most unusual, as well. Her condition seems to have caused it to be accelerated, such that many drugs and poisons just pass through her system with little affect to her. As a side-effect, her body temperature registers on average 2 to 4 degrees higher than a normal human's and yet it doesn't seem to have much of a negative effect on her.
Barring these unusual quirks and anomolies, Sarah is for the most part still biologically human and subject to most of the same physical frailties and weaknesses. If wounded, she can however heal herself by concentrating but this requires a concious act. There is some debate as to whether or not Sarah is still human, but for now given the lack of scientific evidence there has been no cause to investigate that matter further.
Enemies
Amarantus
Formerly known as Jacob Nelson, Amarantus is a potent sorcerer of dark magic. It is believed that he holds key information as to the nature of Sarah's powers as he was present during her transformation. He was last seen in Canada attempting to activate an ancient device designed by Grisha (see Penumbra and Grisha below) in order to attempt to steal Dark Emerald's power. It is believed that he survived the cave in that destroyed his lair and that he is still at large and very dangerous.
Penumbra and Grisha
A highly secretive organization, Penumbra is gathering technology that is based on the writings and works of a 15th century Russian architect and artist known as Grisha. They recruit members from the Russian mofia, former KGB, and other various others who are part of the European underground. It is unclear what their agenda is, but it is speculated that they aspire to ascend to power much like VIPER.
One of their scientists is a man who coincidentally goes by the name of Grisha. Whether or not he is the same Russian architect from 600 years ago remains a subject of speculation.
