Background
The Defendroid line was created by Defender to help patrol the streets at all hours. Defender realized that, though merciless and cruel, the Destroid was effective in principle and had many admirable qualities. His first attempts to modify captured destroids met with failure, and so he had to build the first Defendroid from scratch.
Utilizing many different technologies, some alien that he himself did not fully understand, Defender built Defendroid 0001 to be a combination peacekeeper, cop, and tourism bot. However, he lost focus on the project and never completed it.
However, when the Qularr invaded in 2009, Defendroid was accidentally activated. While his self learning computer is extremely sophisticated, at the time it had nothing but it's core programming. During the course of its automatic systems tests, it escaped Harmon industries and made it half way across the city before stopping to top off its charge pack.
Defendroid began it's self diagnostic cycle and built up its programming over the course of a few weeks. By the time Defender caught up with his robotic creation, he was already an accomplished crimefighter. Recognizing his use to the city, Defender took a copy of his schematics and programming and began building more Defendroids based on his original design.
Other Models
There are dozens of Defendroid's floating around millenium city, spouting helpful information and fighting crime, but not all of them are the same. The first model, Defendroid, is a balanced peacekeeping unit, and is made in Defender's image. Defendroid Beta, the second unit, is a heavy weapons chassis designed to attack hardened targets such as VIPER hover tanks. Once he had started, Defender found it hard to stop, building a Defendroid just to combat fires, a Defendroid to direct traffic, a Defendroid to assist with salvage operations in the river: Anything he could think of. Even a Witchcraftroid, Kinetroid, Sapphiroid, and Ironclad II (though none of them have been activated or even revealed yet.)
Eventually, with Defendroid Prime's help, Defender created "Offendroid," designed to be deployed in warzones as a soldier peacekeeper. Unfortunately, because of a series of misunderstandings, Offendroid has gone rogue and is currently off the map.
Powers
Defendroid Prime uses a mix of alien technologies, including the gadroon gravity and holographic tech to create "hard light," allowing him limited holographic disguise capabilities as well as nonlethal energy beams. He also has a variety of basic robotic functions, such as full body taser, robotic strength, a targeting system, etc.
OOC Inspiration
Defendroid was created in the spirit of the Superman Androids, as well as the Sentinels, and even a little Iron Man.

Unless you've asked one directly, you probably aren't sure just how many Defendroids there are.
Meeting a Defendroid in person is not always a happy occasion. Some people understandably do confuse them with Destroids.
