Elizabeth Joan Perkins was born a healthy baby girl to Bethany and George Perkins on January 8, 1986. The oldest child of three children, she has a younger sister, Chloe, and younger brother, Stephen. She grew up a relatively normal life in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her Father is a college professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan, her mother, a nursing professor at Eastern Michigan University. Hoping that she would follow in their intellectual footsteps, her parents made sure she had the best education. To her parent’s disappointment, however, Beth felt a calling to the church. At the age of 18, she entered the convent, where she continued her education to become a teacher, placed at a convent near Sunnydale, California.

As her siblings got married to their perspective spouses, Beth continued her studies, specializing in the history of the church. Soon, her studies lead her to the history of the Malleus Maleficarum. Learning some of their secrets and troubled past, she took her findings to her superiors. Being told to ignore and bury these secrets, Beth grew even more interested, her parents influence showing through. As she dug deeper, she was horrified by what she found. The world of supernatural evils, vampires, ghosts, and more was opened up to her. Unknown to her, she was now being watched. These secrets were not meant to be found.

On a cool November evening in 2006, just after receiving her accelerated Bachelors Degree, her research had caught up to her. She had looked too closely and people were nervous. She had to be stopped, quietly. While sipping hot tea and finishing up her collection of evidence, she was confronted by the local Bishop Morinar. This was not a warning; he was there to shut her up, permanently. He managed to stab her in the shoulder with a poisoned dagger, before she managed to escape out the window. Thinking she would be dead in a manner of minutes, he let her go. Beth, weak from blood loss and poison, managed to drag herself to the parish where Will McBlack was. He managed to save her life, however, the poison had done its damage, and she was now blind.

While recovering, Beth shared what she had found with Will McBlack. Now thought dead by the church and her family, Beth decided to leave the sisterhood. Putting her life back together meant not only learning to deal with not being able to see, but also learning how to defend herself by Will. She learned not only benedictions from him, but learned to use a sword. She decided to stay hidden for now, in order to protect her family. Feeling isolated, but with a new resolve, Beth had a new dedication, to take down the evils of the world that had harmed her and others. Beth did not loose her faith, though. And this did not go unnoticed. Saint Lucy, the patron Saint of Blindness, blessed her with a kind of “second sight.” Not true sight, but the ability to use echolocation better than average, as well as the ability to use empathy to “see” auras and emotions, even leftover emotions on objects. As her ability grows stronger, for example, if she holds a letter, she cannot read it, but she will be able to feel the emotions put in the letter, as well as possibly get a fuzzy picture of who wrote it.

As Beth continued to learn, she was introduced other hunters such as Kaci and Arthur Toye.

  • Don’t want to write too much about the history of Will, Arthur, and Beth, since they are intertwined.
