Catherine found out about her powers at a younger age than most. Not only was she scared about them, but she was frightened of how others would treat her. The first sign of her abilities was on the playground during school recess. Catherine had climbed her way to the top of the jungle gym pretending to be a super hero like her mother, overly confident about herself as she's done this several times before. Neglecting to pay attention, a rubber playground ball hurled towards her. Catherine unable to react or grab on to anything after impact, plummeted to the ground breaking her arm and sustaining severe cuts and bruises. The children gathered around her making a commotion as they witness her injuries healing, some children gasped turning away is disgust while others awed. One child spoke up comparing her to a lizard sparking the others to comment, calling her a monster and inhuman before kicking dirt at her. Catherine pushed herself off the ground to defend herself as painful as it was, when the other children ran off to the teachers crying that she was a bully and was hurting them. The teacher scolded her, forcing Catherine to sit in the corner till she was able to get along with the others, which sadly never happened. She became withdrawn from the others not only verbally but also emotionally.

The second incident accord during the following year, Catherine's school was having a special guest hero that would promote young children to become empowered to make a difference in their school and neighborhood. Guardsman, Catherine's grandfather, decides to volunteer. Using this as an opportunity to see the cause of the recent changes in her attitude. As Guardsman spoke to the students with a watchful eye, everything looked normal but there was an uneasiness in the atmosphere. As the bell sounded the children stormed out the class to the cafeteria, Catherine leaving once the other where gone make her way to the teacher's lounge to avoid the others as Guardsman stood behind to speak with the teachers. Catherine sat at a table humming to herself in excitement, though she was unable to brag about it Catherine was just happy that she can see her grandfather with his busy schedule suddenly a small group of children entered the room as one called out to her. Calling Catherine an emotionless monster cause she never cries or gets upset when they picked on her, one of the others open a boxed he had in his hand pulling out her pet kitten. That morning the young girl Veronica, Catherine's only friend dropped by to walk to school together. She was rushed out the door with excitement of a Superhero speaker and in their haste she forgot to lock up behind her. The tree boys waited till the two girls left before entering the house, a small kitten greets them with a tiny meow and a leg rub before being picked up behind the neck and placed in a box. The boys rushed to school on there bikes hiding the kitten in the gym storage room until just before that moment. Catherine rushed over to save her kitten when the bigger of the tree grabbed her before the leader of the delinquents approached her. Getting in her face he smiles at her rage sarcastically shocked to see signs of emotions, he laughs squeezing her cheeks together threatening her to cry for him or the kitten will suffer for it. Catherine kicks him in the shin before trying to break free, his laughter quickly turns into bitter anger as he promises her that she will cry. He grabs the kitten and throw it into the wall before grabbing a stainless steel pitcher from the counter and begins to beat the kitten as the second boy held it down. Catherine begged and plead for them to stop before Veronica rushed in. She tells them their taking it to far, the others mentioned that she was the one who told them where Catherine lived and about the kitten. Catherine looks at the girl clenching her teeth in disbelief, the boy stands up as the kitten meows sharply. She begins to tear looking at the young boy as he glanced at her with a sadistic smile, a crushing sound can be heard right after the forceful stomp. Catherine's eyes widen as she cried out from the top of her lungs alerting the staff and the immediate respond of Guardsman. She becomes enraged tapping into her inner strength, breaking away from her captive she grabs a pair of scissors off the table and lunges to the young murderer. Hearing her cry, Guardsman makes it to the scene at the nick of time, stopping the sheers just an inch before it reached the child. The children tried to make a break for it as they ran into the teachers who where rushing to the lounge. After the kids fabricated a lie placing the blame on Catherine, she looked to Guardsman before crying in his arms. Guardsman whispers into her ear for her not to say anything, once the police came on the scene the group was taken in for psychiatric care and Catherine was removed from school.
