Tobias Shaw was an archaeologist. He also dabbled in geology. When researching ancient ruins it proved very handy to be able to tell how structures were shaped and how the environment had worn away and eroded the structures.

Imagine his surprise when he was hired by PRIMUS to check out a site. It turns out, an evil cult had formed around a temple housing an ancient geomancy artifact. With his specializations, PRIMUS thought Tobias would be the perfect researcher to tell them what they had on their hands.

Unfortunately for PRIMUS, the artifact took offense to Tobias's poking and prodding. Before anyone knew what was happening, the object, an orange glowing crystal, shot off of its pedestal and lodged in Tobias's chest. After painfully sinking into his chest, the crystal consumed his heart, taking its place.

Tobias survived, gaining powerful geomancy powers. With some help from PRIMUS and a little practice, Tobias soon joined the ranks of heroes as the Geo Guard.
