<div style="text-indent:40px;">Born to a modest, middle-class family, '''Jakar''' was a foolhardy boy from a young age. He also had aspirations. Jakar was born to a long line of successful gladiators. Jakar knew he was destined to rise to greatness, or die just as greatly. He was trained by his father for several years, until Jakar's father died in battle. Jakar witnessed his final moments, and said, "I can only wish to die as valiantly as him." Jakar continued his training under a close friend of his father, '''Kilm'''. Kilm noticed Jakar's unnatural talent with all the weapons he was using, especially dual swords. Kilm brought Jakar along to the training grounds for professional gladiators, to show him firsthand the experience of a gladiator preparing themselves for the glory, or death, that will meet them each day. It was this day when the '''King of Centarkia''', '''Andlam''', was doing a surprise visit of the arena. Andlam immediately recognized Kilm, and in turn recognized Jakar. He approached and told Jakar that if he was as strong as his father, he was destined for great things in life. Jakar took this to heart and continued training even harder, so as to not disappoint the King.<br>

<div style="text-indent:40px;">In another dimension, one consisting of land masses all broken and seperate, the denizens were a more or less peaceful kind. Each land kept to itself, in the idea that if they didn't bother you, why bother them? Only on rare occasion would there be interaction between lands, and those interactions would merely be trading supplies. Food, beverages, and medicines were the only things shared between the lands. However, in order to trade these supplies, an expedition would need to be made. Brave souls would board ships that would head towards the land where the trade request was made to. The reason for these one-way expeditions was so the risk of losing lives would only affect the island who needed the trade. Those sent on expeditions were targeted, by ruthless pirates. These pirates were never merciful, always slaughtering everyone on board if they managed to catch the trade ship. However, the most ruthless, and successful, of these pirates was one man. His name, at least as far as the legends know, was '''Shroud Black'''.

<div style="text-indent:40px;">No one really knew where Shroud came from, but the truth is he was born to exiles from a distant land. His parents were thieves, stealing everything they ever had, mainly to provide for Shroud. Eventually, the family was found and chased, but they managed to escape by smuggling on board a ship headed for an expedition. Unsurprisingly, the ship was attacked by pirates. However, by some dark miracle, the captain of the pirates, '''"Blood Blade" Jax''', found Shroud. He decided that he was in need of an heir to his ship, and took Shroud in as a son. He then slaughtered Shroud's parents. Since then, Shroud was raised in the life of plundering, and ruthless murder to obtain what you wanted. Jax gave Shroud two swords, and taught him his style of swordsmanship. He soon realized however, his acclimation with pistols, and quickly became the crew's best gunman. He was a crack-shot, almost never missing a target. Shroud also discovered that he was one of a small number of beings, able to dissolve into a black goo that others referred to as,''' "The Pool"'''. Using his skills, he rose to a high standing within the crew, with even some of the men referring to him as the "young prince". The captain took note of this however, and became paranoid that Shroud would try to take the ship by force. Which Shroud was actually planning to do. However, in his planned mutiny, he was betrayed by a close ally, and thrown overboard. Shroud spent the next three years, floating in the dark void between lands, until he was finally picked up by a trade ship on an expedition. After being saved, Shroud showed his thanks by offering the people on board a place in his new crew. Those who denied, he swiftly killed. The rest would accept his offer out of fear. He claimed his new ship, and named it, the '''Prince's Dread'''.

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Years later, Jakar was ready for his first battle. With both his parents passed, Kilm, who had retired from the arena years prior, was the only man to watch his battle. Jakar, who was going by the name '''Gladion''', easily dispatched his opponent using his superior abilities. The audience, and even Andlam himself was astounded with his skill. Andlam visited Jakar after the battle in his chambers, and congratulated him on his victory. Andlam then offered him a chance at an arena he was starting privately. He claimed the arena was, "The absolute top-end battles that are only fought by the strongest warriors, hand-picked by the King alone". Jakar declined, saying he wanted to surpass his father's level of recognition  before he left this arena. More years passed, and Jakar had long ago become the greatest warrior in the arena. He was merely fighting for his image's sake at this point, and he had become bored. One day, after visiting his parent's and Kilm's grave and reflecting on his life, Jakar went to visit the King and see if that offer for the new arena was still standing.<br>

<div style="text-indent:40px;">With Shroud aboard his new ship, the Prince's Dread, he began a legend as a cruel and ruthless pirate that put others to shame. He led his crew, which has grown from mere scared kidnapping victims to admired pirates in their own regards, to great prizes. He even began a new movement of raiding the lands themselves instead of only the ships. This new tactic caused his name to be feared throughout the entire dimension. However, word of Shroud's new pirate crew wreaking havoc managed to reach Jax's ear. He understood that while Shroud was out making his own living, he was looking for revenge as well. And Shroud found it by chance. The Prince's Dread came across Jax and his ship, on a random outing, and a bloody slaughter immediately began. Shroud was fighting Jax one on one. It was a bloody fight, that cost Shroud his left eye. But Jax was eventually defeated, and promptly shot in the head. Jax was beheaded, and his head was tied to the figurehead of Shroud's ship. An era had ended, and so began the '''Era of Black'''.
<div style="text-indent:40px;"> Preparing for his first battle in the King's new arena, Jakar was approached by Andlam. He told Jakar that these battles were far different from the battles he had spent his life fighting. Jakar would need to undergo a special procedure to ensure an even playing field with all the other gladiators. Jakar accepted, not seeing the hell he would go through. He underwent pure torture, and experimentation on his body. The experiments led to him gaining an extremely hardened body and organs, like all other gladiators, to ensure battles would last long enough for true entertainment. He then had an unknown object implanted directly into his chest, enabling him to teleport at will. The object also gave the control of telekinetic forces in his immediate vicinity. Jakar would continue enduring enduring these procedures and testings for days on end. When they finally ended, Jakar was given his first battle, against one of the King's elite guards.<br>
+
<div style="text-indent:40px;">The battle was heavily one-sided, in the guard's favor, for a while. Jakar noticed how the guard was acting savage, as if he was not fighting for the love of the combat. He managed to land a lucky hit, evening the odds enough for Jakar to kill his opponent swiftly. After the battle, Jakar thought to himself how this is not what was expecting when he signed up for this new arena. He eventually ran into like-minded individuals, who he quickly befriended. They soon became like brothers to each other, a bright light during a dark time for all of them. With the thought of his brothers in his mind, Jakar would continue fighting in the hellish arena.<br>

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Further years passed, at which point Jakar had stopped counting how many, and Jakar had rose to the top echelon of warriors in the Arena. Many of his brothers had fallen, and their grotesque deaths had weighed heavily on his mind. They were not honorable deaths; they were begging for the pain to stop, only for it to continue. They would finally die, with tears colored with their blood dried on their faces. Jakar and his last 3 brothers had reached their breaking point, and confronted Andlam in his throne room. They demanded to know what was happening to themselves with these experiments, and the idea of torturing their opponents, not killing them honorably. Andlam was outraged by this confrontation, and ordered his guards to deal with them. Jakar resisted, but one of his brothers was murdered on the spot. Upon seeing this, Jakar's mind finally snapped, and he fell to his knees. He and his brothers were dragged out of the palace and thrown to the ground. Jakar's fallen brother was just tossed to the ground in front of them. Jakar swore to his last two brothers that they will end this monstrosity of an arena.<br>

<div style="text-indent:40px;">With the death of "Blood Blade" Jax, Shroud Black became a feared name throughout the dimension. Shroud had also acquired a solid white eye, to replace the one lost in the battle with Jax. He and his men would venture off in a random direction, eventually finding new lands, not known on any maps, and would take everything they could from that land's people. He would also kill anyone who tried to stop him. He hunted creatures never heard of, eating their meat, and tossing their bones over the ship. Days like this would continue for a long while, until Shroud had a realization. He would also need a heir someday. He took a young girl from the next land he saw, named '''Kar''', and began teaching her in the ways of pirates. She quickly showed the same potential that Shroud himself showed on Jax's ship, but he wasn't worried. He knew for sure that he could easily handle Kar if she got out of hand. He soon learned he was wrong. It was in Shroud's sleep one night, that a mutiny led by Kar began. Shocked to see so many of his men betray him, he began slaughtering indiscriminately. He left a bloody pile of traitors in his wake, but he was stabbed in the back by Kar. Thrown overboard and left for dead again, Shroud began drifting for far longer this time. He was in uncharted territory, and he knew there was no chance someone would find him.

<div style="text-indent:40px;"> After several years of planning, Jakar was ready to enact his plan of rebellion. Jakar's last two brothers had died in the prior years, but he would not forget any of them. The plan was enacted during his match with one of his conspirators. They stopped their fight, and immediately went to the gates to free their comrades. They all gathered around Jakar as he announced his intentions to end Andlam's reign, in the name of his fallen brothers. Andlam ordered the beheading of all of the traitors, but his guards were quickly overpowered by the number of warriors. Andlam retreated, declaring he would personally end Jakar's life himself one day. Jakar responded, "Jakar died when the last of his brothers stopped breathing. I am only a warrior now. A warrior named Gladion".<br>

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Years passed, and Shroud was still drifting in the void between lands. The stab wound had long healed, but he was still in poor condition. He had no food for months, making due of the leftovers from the bones of the beasts he threw overboard long ago. He knew he was going to die, but then a blinding white light came from nowhere, and engulfed Shroud. When Shroud regained his senses, he found himself in an unknown area, surrounded by tables and bright lights. Around him were strange men, in differing color skin, looking at him. He attacked the nearest one with one of the light sources, damaging his own face badly in the process, and attempted to flee. He had made it outside the building and ran through a large crowd staring at him. Shroud didn't know where he was, with large structures of varying sizes everywhere. He was confused, and started panicking, when what appeared to him as a large, metal creature hit him square in the chest. He was launched several feet, and blacked out. He then woke up in another unknown area, surrounded by women wearing blue clothing. It was at this moment, he also discovered that he could not remember who he was.
<div style="text-indent:40px;">Throughout the next few years, a bloody war was fought. The King and and his supporters, against Gladion and his fellow warriors and supporters. Many lives, warrior and citizen alike, were lost in the battles ensued. Many close calls taught Gladion to try different, less honorable tactics, to to kill his enemies. Eventually, Gladion and his warriors managed to ambush Andlam in the middle of his move to a new base. Andlam was quickly overpowered by Gladion, and begged to be spared. Gladion was spurred by his allies to torture him, just as they were all those years. However, as Gladion was going to begin, in the back of his mind, he remembered his early years, being taught by his father, to never be unhonorable in battle. This led to Gladion simply beheading him on the spot, much to the dismay of the others. Gladion simply said, "I fought for the honor of our fallen. As such, I had to end it honorably."<br>

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Shroud, only remembering his name now, spent several days in what he learned was a hospital. He explained his situation to the nurses tending to him, and they explained what they knew. They told him that he was brought to their hospital on a stretcher, after being hit by a dump truck. Shroud saw an outfit, that he assumed was his, next to him all folded. He asked if there was anything else that was with those clothes, and the nurses told him he had weapons with him. However, the hospital doesn't allow patients to carry weapons, even if the patient is a hero. Shroud didn't understand what they were talking about, but he understood he would get his things back after being discharged. It wasn't until a few more days that Shroud was allowed to leave, and he finally received his clothes and weapons. When he left, he decided he needed to learn about where he is, and maybe that will help him learn who he is.

<div style="text-indent:40px;"> In short time, a new monarchy was formed, with Gladion made King. His first order was the destruction of the dark arena he and all the other warriors spent countless years in. Much deserved peace was attained, with the building of a new arena. It was dedicated to his brothers, and all of the fallen warriors from the war. Gladion fought in it's inaugural match, and unsurprising to anyone, won. He then announced his retirement from the arena, so he could focus on leading his people to new prosperity, which he did. New advancements in weapon-and-armor smithing were made to ensure more over the top battles, ending with honorable deaths, as they always should be. But eventually, Gladion began to grow bored with his lifestyle, wishing to feel the true rush of glorious and honorable battle again. He knew he would not find it on Centarkia anymore, so he declared he was stepping down from the throne.

<div style="text-indent:40px;">A few weeks had passed, and Shroud had learned more of Earth's culture. However, he was unable to learn more of who he really was. He did gain remembrance of his skills, and how to access "The Pool" though. While walking down a dark alley, Shroud came across a young white man, with blond hair and blue eyes, being robbed at gunpoint. Shroud wasn't sure what he should do, so he went into "The Pool", and watched. The young man gave up his money, but was still shot in the end and left for dead. Shroud, feeling a sense of anger, reformed himself, and attacked the robber with his swords. The robber didn't see him until he turned, and was slit in the throat. The blood from the robber splashed onto Shroud's face, and he began to have a meltdown. With a flood of memories rushing to his head, Shroud began to scream in pain, not understanding what he was seeing. The only thing he could manage to pull from these scenes, was that he was from a dimension unlike this one. He didn't understand what was happening to him, and when the pain finally stopped, he threw the swords away. Standing next to two dead bodies, Shroud understood that he would not be able to escape from questioning if the police found him there. It was here he had a strange thought, as if someone was speaking to him. He would not learn until later, that it was "The Pool" speaking to him. "The Pool" told him that he could assume the form of any humanoid being, by first dissolving and reshaping themselves to fit the desired image. Using this new ability, Shroud assumed the identity of the robbery victim. He would then escape, leaving the bodies to be found by police later. Shroud remembered the pain he received after killing that man, and swore he would never kill again.

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Gladion had a shuttle prepared for him to travel to a new planet. He hoped he would new experiences and battle on this new planet he arrive at. Gladion left command of the planet to his advisors, who were all his remaining commanders during the war. They promised the planet will continue to prosper in his absence, and Gladion promised to contact them regularly. Finally, to the roars and cheers of his people, Gladion took off in his shuttle. He left Centarkia, looking for adventure and glorious battle. It was years later, that he finally landed on Earth.

<hr>

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Gladion, after years of travel in his shuttle, had finally landed on Earth. Unaware of what planet he was on, he learned he landed in a desert, near what he would later come to learn was '''Millennium City'''. After he got his bearings, he traveled to the city, hoping to learn more of the planet. He arrived in '''Westside''', and immediately saw a young lady being approached by a suspicious man, dressed in black and white, with face paint. When the man began to pull a weapon from his coat, Gladion approached to speak to him. Asking the man what he was doing, the man became startled at the size of him. The woman noticed the suspicious man and immediately fled. In anger, the man pointed his weapon, a small knife, at Gladion. Seeing the weapon, Gladion responded in turn. He was excited, believing he had found a great world for battle. However, upon seeing Gladion's swords, the man thought he was a hero, and immediately ran. Gladion was angered by this, and began chasing him. The man managed to reach other people dressed like him, and got them to join him against Gladion. Gladion noticed and said that he would gladly fight them each, but only after he had defeated the first man who challenged him. The men ignored him, and all charged at him at the same time. Surprised by this, Gladion was caught off guard, and took a blow to his side. Angered by their tactics, he was reminded of his battles during the war for his planet. Gladion went silent, and immediately dispatched the men, killing them swiftly. Coming back to his senses, he saw his work, and the reactions of the people who came up to see. Thinking they were here to challenge him as well, Gladion brandished his swords. The people all ran, screaming.<br>

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Shroud, now learning his new ability of disguise, decided to test it more. "The Pool" then explained that his reshaping was only limited to beings that share his natural shape. This meant that the humans he decided to form as, would have no defects to them. So in the end, Shroud decided to stick to the form of the robbery victim from that night. He also knew he was going to need a new name as well. It was then he found a local paper, and decided to take a name from the obituaries. He chose the name, '''Hans Dampier''', a man who had died of old age. With a new name and life ready, Shroud decided to learn everything he can about his new world. He enrolled at a nearby community college, and began learning of Earth and it's history. Years later, after graduating, he came across another mugging in an alleyway. Still remembering the pain from last time, he chose to ignore it. But in his mind, he knew he could have stopped it. He just needed the right equipment. He went to a nearby pawnshop, and happened to find some swords that resembled his old ones. He bought them, and decided to  test how sharp they were. After discovering they were still sharp enough to kill, he immediately dulled them until they were essentially dull sticks on a handle. He then remembered his guns, and realized he would need to get them modified. But, he was not well versed with tech, so he had to stick with his swords until he could find someone to help him. Using his new swords, Shroud was ready to begin his nightly patrols.

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Confused, Gladion continued walking down Westside. While walking, he saw more of the same thing he went through when he first arrived, and began to question whether this planet was what he actually thought it was. Then, a group of police vehicles approached him. The officers' exited their vehicles, with their weapons drawn. They asked if he was the one responsible for the mass of dead bodies found throughout the area. Gladion said he was, claiming they challenged them, and he responded in kind. He also said they died honorably, even though they would tend to attack all at once, instead of one-on-one. The police officers told him to drop his weapons and come quietly. Gladion said he would never drop his swords, and that they were acting dishonorably. The police began opening fire on him, and Gladion surprised by this, took some shots. However, they did no visible damage to his hardened skin. Shocked by their actions, Gladion began to approach them angrily. It was then he was approached by a large, silver skinned warrior. This warrior introduced himself as '''Ironclad'''.<br>

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Shroud would spend the rest of his time, going on patrols late at night, stopping random muggings. It wasn't until he was discovered by '''UNTIL''', that his real heroics began. He agreed to testing, allowing UNTIL scientists to analyze his body, and learn what he was truly capable of. In return, they offered him equipment upgrades, which he definitely needed. UNTIL improved Shroud's swords, by infusing them with a special alloy, making them nearly unbreakable. They modified his flintlocks, allowing them to rapid-fire, and use special non-lethal ammo. They also gave him the knowledge of how to make the ammo in his spare time. Having new gear, Shroud said he was ready for their testing. It was during these tests, that he learned he had a resistance to fire comparable to that of a standard firefighter's protective suit. He also learned that his strength, speed, and agility were easily matching that of the world's top Olympic athletes. His amazing aim however, was nearly unrivaled, second only to a few top-class heroes. After completing the tests, Shroud took off into '''Millennium City'''. From here on, Shroud declared that he would make a difference, ready to fight for what's right. While he would never take a life again, he would make sure that criminals wish he did. He would make sure that his, and Millennium City's enemies, would come to fear the name '''"Shroud Black"'''.

<div style="text-indent:40px;">Ironclad approached Gladion, and told him to halt. Upon looking at him, Gladion began to smirk, thinking he had finally found a true warrior. Gladion challenged Ironclad, and Ironclad, looking at the worried officers, agreed on the condition that it was away from the city. After traveling back to the spot Gladion landed at, Gladion began to charge at Ironclad. The battle was long, and well-fought, but it ended with Gladion's loss. Shocked, but satisfied, Gladion thanked Ironclad for the battle. As he prepared himself for his honorable death, Ironclad simply picked him up. Gladion was enraged, and demanded to know why he was denied his honorable death. Ironclad explained that killing is not tolerated on this planet. Gladion was confused. He wondered how a planet that had so many people so quick to fight, could possibly abhor killing. Ironclad asked Gladion where he came from. Gladion explained his story, deciding to leave out the details of the events that led up to the war. Ironclad, beginning to understand Gladion's experiences, told Gladion to follow him. While traveling, Ironclad asked Gladion for his name, and Gladion hesitantly told him it was Jakar. Eventually, Gladion and Ironclad arrived at Millenium City and the HQ of '''The Champions'''. Inside, Ironclad introduced Gladion to '''Defender''', and explained Gladion's story to him. Defender smiled and brought Gladion to a seperate room, and began teaching him the situation on Earth. It was from here on, that Gladion would grow to become one of the planet's greatest warriors, and heroes.

'''Hardened Skin -''' After the experimentation done to him, Gladion gained '''HARDENED SKIN AND ORGANS''', preventing him from receiving fatal injuries.
+
<hr>
+
'''Teleportation -''' During the experiments, a mysterious alien object was implanted into Gladion, right in-between his ribs. This object gave Gladion the ability to '''TELEPORT''' at will. It took time to get used to though, as he would throw up immediately after teleportation at first.
+
<hr>
+
'''Telekinetic Force Manipulation -''' The mysterious object in Gladion's chest gives him the ability to '''MANIPULATE TELEKINETIC FORCES''' in his immediate vicinity. This also allows him to build up kinetic energy in his legs, enabling him to jump extreme heights.

+

<hr>

<hr>
'''Bladed Weapon Mastery -''' Trained from a young age, Gladion was shown to be '''ADEPT WITH ALL FORMS OF BLADED WEAPONRY''', especially his dual swords. These skills were only hardened by the countless decades of gladiatorial combat. He was eventually recognized as the greatest swordsman of his planet.
+
'''"The Pool" -''' Shroud is one of a small number of his beings, that can dissolve their bodies, and access an ooze-like state known only as "The Pool". In this state, Shroud is unnoticeable, allowing him to sneak past or behind enemies. "The Pool" also speaks to Shroud, informing him of things he is capable of in this form.

<hr>

<hr>
'''Expert Tactician -''' During the war on Centarkia, Gladion was leading all of his forces in a uphill battle. He learned how to divide forces, and put certain men with certain skills in the area where they would be best suited. He was praised for his '''SKILLS IN STRATEGY'''. He also learned '''GUERRILLA WARFARE''', though those actions were much to his dismay. He would rather not use those tactics if he can help it.
+
'''Body Alteration -''' While in "The Pool", Shroud can alter his physical body, allowing him to disguise himself as any human being. The only downside is, they have to match his natural shape, meaning the people he disguises himself as can't have any defects to them. He learned this when "The Pool" informed him during one of his first nights out after arriving on Earth. This also gives him the capability of never truly aging.

<hr>
'''High Stamina -''' Gladion didn't reach his rank of ability by being tired out a few moments into his battles. Gladion has shown superhuman stamina and endurance. His battle with Ironclad lasted nearly four whole hours straight. Gladion once even went a whole week without water or food during the war on his planet.
+
'''Expert Marksmanship -''' Discovering his skills at a younger age, Shroud is an expert gunman. He doesn't remember his past though, so he believes he is just unnaturally talented. Shroud rarely misses a shot, and has shown this skill with most firearms. However, he only sticks with his two personal custom flintlock pistols.

<hr>

<hr>
'''Very Honorable -''' Gladion was raised from a young age, to be honorable above all else. In a fight, he will never resort to cheap tactics, nor will he accept an enemy using them. He also believed that killing your foe after a well fought battle, was one of the greatest honors you could give them. He was eventually taught by Defender and Ironclad that killing is not tolerated on Earth. Gladion accepted this, but knew that if it must be done to protect those close to him, he would not hesitate to end the enemy before him.
+
'''Adept Swordsman -''' Shroud was trained by Jax when he was young in the art of dual swords. He showed promise, but eventually discovered his talent with guns. Shroud does not remember this though, and just assumes he was always decent with swords. He still polishes his swordsmanship from time to time, and is more than capable of holding his own.

'''Weapon -''' Gladion is never seen without his trusty '''DUAL SWORDS''', forged from his father's armor after he fell in battle. Made from some of the strongest steel in Centarkia, they will never break. He maintains them himself.
+
'''Fire Resistant -''' Through testing, Shroud discovered that he has a natural resistance to fire. His resistance is comparable to a firefighter's standard protective wear.

<hr>

<hr>
'''Armor -''' Gladion's trademark '''HELMET''' is made from the armor of the opponents he killed during his first battles. He maintains it himself. He got his '''GLOVES''' as a gift from his seven brothers'. He has each of their names engraved on them.
+
'''Amnesia -''' After he was hit by a dump truck when he first arrived on Earth, Shroud had no recollection of his past life as his dimension's most feared pirate. When Shroud first killed a man on Earth, he felt an extremely painful surge of memories in his head. He was unable to learn anything from them, other than that he was from a different dimension. He then swore off killing, to avoid ever feeling that pain again, even if it meant never learning his true history.

'''Twin Swords (Dulled Edges) -''' Shroud's original twin swords were a gift to him from Jax. After arriving on Earth, he threw them away after the painful experience he had when he killed a robber with them. Now he uses two replica swords he bought from a pawn shop. He has since gotten them upgraded with a special alloy from UNTIL. The blades have been dulled to a point where they are essentially just really strong sticks on fancy handles.

<hr>
'''Gladion's Brothers (Deceased)''' - The seven warriors Gladion met during his exploits in the King's hellish arena. They relied on each other, and were rarely seen apart from one another. Before one of Gladion's more dangerous battles, he was gifted a pauldron and a pair of gloves from them. They each had their own pair as well, and engraved on the gloves were the names of the other seven. They all died in the arena, and in their honor, a new arena was built after Gladion became King. They are buried underneath the arena's field.

'''Kilm (Deceased)''' - Kilm was Gladion's mentor after his father fell in battle. Kilm became a second father to Gladion, caring for him, and teaching him how to further his prowess in battle. He gave Gladion his two swords, telling him he reforged them from the armor Gladion's father wore the day he died in the arena. He eventually retired from battle, passing away peacefully in his sleep. He is buried next to his Gladion's parents.

Both Shroud and his Alter-Ego, Hans Dempier, are single.

<hr>
'''Ironclad''' - Ironclad was the first hero to meet Gladion when he arrived on Earth. He was also the first person Gladion ever lost to. He taught Gladion to avoid killing as much as possible, much to Gladion's dismay at first. Now, Ironclad and Gladion are well-versed with each other. They even spar on rare occasion. Ironclad still wins everytime.

The Black Rise

A Black Dimension

In another dimension, one consisting of land masses all broken and seperate, the denizens were a more or less peaceful kind. His name, at least as far as the legends know, was Shroud Black.

The Black Beginning

No one really knew where Shroud came from, but the truth is he was born to exiles from a distant land. His parents were thieves, stealing everything they ever had, mainly to provide for Shroud. Eventually, the family was found and chased, but they managed to escape by smuggling on board a ship headed for an expedition. Unsurprisingly, the ship was attacked by pirates. However, by some dark miracle, the captain of the pirates, "Blood Blade" Jax, found Shroud. Shroud also discovered that he was one of a small number of beings, able to dissolve into a black goo that others referred to as, "The Pool". He claimed his new ship, and named it, the Prince's Dread.

The Black Legend

With Shroud aboard his new ship, the Prince's Dread, he began a legend as a cruel and ruthless pirate that put others to shame. An era had ended, and so began the Era of Black.

The Black Era

With the death of "Blood Blade" Jax, Shroud Black became a feared name throughout the dimension. He took a young girl from the next land he saw, named Kar, and began teaching her in the ways of pirates.

The White Light

Years passed, and Shroud was still drifting in the void between lands.

A New Beginning

A New Start

Shroud, only remembering his name now, spent several days in what he learned was a hospital.

A New Viewpoint

A few weeks had passed, and Shroud had learned more of Earth's culture.

A New Lifestyle

Shroud, now learning his new ability of disguise, decided to test it more. He chose the name, Hans Dampier, a man who had died of old age.

A New Hero

Shroud would spend the rest of his time, going on patrols late at night, stopping random muggings. It wasn't until he was discovered by UNTIL, that his real heroics began. After completing the tests, Shroud took off into Millennium City. From here on, Shroud declared that he would make a difference, ready to fight for what's right. While he would never take a life again, he would make sure that criminals wish he did. He would make sure that his, and Millennium City's enemies, would come to fear the name "Shroud Black".

Powers, Skills, and Attributes

Powers

"The Pool" - Shroud is one of a small number of his beings, that can dissolve their bodies, and access an ooze-like state known only as "The Pool". In this state, Shroud is unnoticeable, allowing him to sneak past or behind enemies. "The Pool" also speaks to Shroud, informing him of things he is capable of in this form.

Body Alteration - While in "The Pool", Shroud can alter his physical body, allowing him to disguise himself as any human being. The only downside is, they have to match his natural shape, meaning the people he disguises himself as can't have any defects to them. He learned this when "The Pool" informed him during one of his first nights out after arriving on Earth. This also gives him the capability of never truly aging.

Skills

Expert Marksmanship - Discovering his skills at a younger age, Shroud is an expert gunman. He doesn't remember his past though, so he believes he is just unnaturally talented. Shroud rarely misses a shot, and has shown this skill with most firearms. However, he only sticks with his two personal custom flintlock pistols.

Adept Swordsman - Shroud was trained by Jax when he was young in the art of dual swords. He showed promise, but eventually discovered his talent with guns. Shroud does not remember this though, and just assumes he was always decent with swords. He still polishes his swordsmanship from time to time, and is more than capable of holding his own.

Attributes

Fire Resistant - Through testing, Shroud discovered that he has a natural resistance to fire. His resistance is comparable to a firefighter's standard protective wear.

Amnesia - After he was hit by a dump truck when he first arrived on Earth, Shroud had no recollection of his past life as his dimension's most feared pirate. When Shroud first killed a man on Earth, he felt an extremely painful surge of memories in his head. He was unable to learn anything from them, other than that he was from a different dimension. He then swore off killing, to avoid ever feeling that pain again, even if it meant never learning his true history.

Twin Flintlock Pistols - Shroud's twin pistols were taken from the bodies of his first two kills on Jax's ship. He uses a special non-lethal ammo that he learned to create from UNTIL scientists in Millennium City. He also had his pistols customized to fit the new ammo as well. He makes the ammo in his spare time.

Twin Swords (Dulled Edges) - Shroud's original twin swords were a gift to him from Jax.

Relationships

Lover

Both Shroud and his Alter-Ego, Hans Dempier, are single.

Friends/Allies

  • UNTIL - UNTIL discovered Shroud when he first arrived on Earth. They decided not to visit him until they saw what he was capable of, one night while he was on patrol. They approached him and offered to upgrade his gear, if they could study his physiology. Shroud agreed, and they have been allies ever since.

Enemies

General Perception

The people of Millennium have come to accept Shroud as one of their heroes. The people aren't aware of Shroud's secret life as Hans Dempier though.
