Basic Information

Kreios Septimus is a Guardmaster of the Babylonian Guard. This means that he has fought for the continued survival of mankind for several centuries. He is well versed in the tired and true martial and mystic practices of the Guard. These skills are designed to effectively combat the myriad of supernatural and extra-planar beings and creatures that have been known to visit Earth through it's history, including, but in no way limited to Angels, Demons, and Fae.

History

Kreios Septimus was born to Gaius Septimus and Marcella Septimus in what would have been the year 1368 on Earth. The Septimus family was one of wealth, having been a long line of successful merchants. Kreios's youth was filled with studies of literature, economics, politics, mathematics, and other subjects. Kreios was also taught the basics of war, primarily how to use a blade.

His father, the Pater Familias, while not cruel, believed that his approval and love must be earned. Kreios, being of a stubborn disposition, eventually earned his father's compassion, something his younger brother Cassius never was able to do. This drove a wedge between the two brothers, Cassius viewing Kreios as the favorite and Kreios seeing Cassius as lazy. Of the two brothers, Kreios was the gooder, kinder, and more intelligent, though a bit humorless. Cassius was cruel, sadistic, and a bit dull by most accounts.

When he came of age Kreios began fully working as a merchant along side his father, his wit and truthful conduct allowing him to make deals and agreements that even his father had difficulty with. Even a few with the Babylonian Guard, which unbeknownst to him at the time, marked him as a possible recruit. Cassius, who at this point had taken several steps down a slippery slope, became increasingly interested in finding a way to reverse the fortunes of Kreios and himself. He eventually became a member of a cult dedicated to Mephistopheles, the Emperor of Pride. Cassius proved to be adept with such a vocation, quickly raising in prestige.

As it is with all men, his father passed away well into Kreios's adulthood. As per his father's wishes Kreios became the next Pater Familias. This proved to be too much for Cassius, who, using his influence in the cult, ordered that every other member of the Septimus family be killed in preparation for a ritual to make Babylon a part of the Netherworld. This proved to be his undoing, as such activity drew the attention of the Babylonian Guard almost immediately. The cultists, who were having difficulty with just the Septimus's House Guards, where wholly incapable of resisting the Guardsmen of Babylon and were entirely wiped out.

During all this, Kreios and Cassius became embroiled in a brutal struggle. Each struck blow after blow, but neither was able to gain a decisive advantage. That is until Cassius began to tire and Kreios was able to wring his hands around Cassius's neck. Kreios watched as the life drained from his brother's eyes, knowing that this deed, while entirely necessary, would haunt him for the rest of his life.

In the clean up of the nights events, Kreios was approached by the Guard, which had seen firsthand what Kreios would do in the defense of Babylon, and was offered a place among it's ranks. Deciding that he needed a new path for his life, Kreios agreed. Thus his first life ended and his next one began.

Even for one as stubborn as Kreios, the Guard's training was brutal and uncompromising. It's teachings remolded his mind, exposed him to new truths. By the end of the decade long training term, Kreios was reborn as a Guardsman.

As a Guardsman Kreios served with distinction, taking part in the numerous excursions to Faerie and Earth. On one occasion in 1427 he was among the two hands that were tasked with killing a Manticore, with Kreios himself piercing the beasts heart. For this, he was raised to the rank of Guardsquire, the equivalent of a modern Sergeant.
