Childhood - Adolescents
Koda Ortega's journey began as the bastard child of a sailor, and an up-and-coming registered nurse in Negros Occidental, Philippines. Although his parents married right after the pregnancy, this little boy was seen by his father as a nuisance. Constantly abused, as a toddler, with belts, pebbles, and vocal insults conducted by his father and grandfather, young Koda felt as if he never belonged in the family at all. This bleak outlook on life changed when his other grandfather, Nelson, taught the tortured boy how to box whilst giving him his philosophy on life: train to become the strongest version of yourself, and protect good people whenever possible. As the older man continued to teach Koda how to fight, he was awed by the young bastard's ability to withstand punishment without flinching and his fortified willpower. Soon enough, the boy found a love for fighting as well as a positive role model, and someone to call a "true dad".
By the age of 8, Koda and his family left the Philippines to immigrate in the United States, specifically in Stockton, California. For the kid, this meant that he had a fresh new start, and, due to the laws against child abuse, the usual beatings caused by dad would cease. Yet, the troubles have only just begun. Being the new kid from a foreign land that had a shitty accent, Koda was a target for other children to bully. Being hardened from the abuse obtained from home, he never much cared for the name-calling. That is, until those negative actions channel to innocent people or become physical. This was first tested when Koda's first friend, Jules, was being preyed on by several kids for being a "crack baby". Like a mad wolf protecting his pack, the bastard child defended his only friend by knocking out Marco, one of the bullies, with one solid straight to the jaw. The incident led Koda to gain more respect from his peers, but, at the same time, put another massive target on his back.
As the transition from grade school to middle school came about, young Ortega's life grew to become more violent. Constant bullying on his friend Jules caused Koda to become more volatile, and more determined to turn his body into a strong fortress to protect his friend.
