Light Wing, whose secret identity name is Michelle Summers, is the single daughter of the Summers family. She is one of the very few to be genetically compatible with an intelligent and self-aware power gem, simply named Gem. Light Wing focuses on both humanitarian efforts and fighting crime.
History
Discovering Gem
Light Wing began developing her powers since a young age. She was gifted Gem as a graduation gift, only to later find out that this piece of jewellery is responding to Light's mental and verbal commands.
Like any child with a silly fantasy, Light wished for many random things; such as the gift of flight, mind-reading, appearance changing, and super strength. And like any other 11-year-old, Light had little awareness of consequence until confronted about her reckless actions.
From property damage to violation of privacy, Light lived in her own little world... until the government came. Light Wing was caught under heat of legal obligations when UNTIL appeared and agreed to compensate for the property damages upon the condition the Light Wing joins their newly established training program* under their full supervision.
A Reality Check: Some Things Are Best Left Unknown
While being monitored and trained in UNTIL, Light Wing had was homeschooled for a year until she was allowed to study in a public school. This was an attempt to keep Light Wing's sense of attachment to the public rather than alienate her from it. But the one year isolation from the general public, along with newly acquired powers and a go-ahead from the school board to let Light Wing skip a grade; Light Wing failed to develop the social skills required to obtain healthy relationships with her peers around that age, and she was ultimately cast as the loser in her grade.
At first, Light Wing had trouble grasping the behaviour of her classmates. The rude whispers and constant neglect on their part confused the girl. It was not until she learned how to read minds that she understood the motives behind their actions.
