Description
Though physically human, Courtney Miles manifested on Earth as a result of a temporal anomaly. A newborn in the body of a sixteen year old, she was found and raised by the High Apostolic Church of Vibora Bay. Under their care, she was given education and spiritual guidance, forming a connection to the metaphysical as she quickly took to their unique doctrine. Through her studies, she learned of her unusual status as a living portal to the void, an endless expanse that connects to all realms. Utilizing the arts of thaumaturgy, theurgy and voodoo, Courtney learned to control the cosmic energies of the void, manifesting it's power as a paint-like darkness.
In the current day, Courtney has developed a reputation for heroism among the people of Vibora. Known as the ebon witch, Maiden Midnight, she uses her magical powers to combat otherworldly threats. As her abilities grow, so too does her presence within the Sephiroth, attracting the attention of the greater mystic world. Entities both benign and malevolent seek her power for their own purposes, believing control of the void means dominion over reality. Despite all of this, Courtney remains dedicated to the protection of her home, the queen city.
Personality/Motivation
Soft-spoken and introverted, Courtney Miles spends most of her time delving into ancient texts, spellbooks and forgotten bible verses. Rarely does she team-up with other Viboran heroes and lacks a significant social life outside of crimefighting. Though somewhat reluctant to get involved in superhuman affairs, she'll do anything to protect her home and people, putting aside her hesitation when the call of duty arrives. Despite not holding any position within the great prophecy, Courtney seeks to defy fate and drive out Therakiel's forces. She hopes, in doing so, to honor the memory of the Apostolic Church, whom she owes much to.
