History and Background
Thousands of years ago, Mammoth's Earth was no different from ours. Then a single but catastrophic difference was introduced: The Ice Lord Grolok. Grolok's true origins are unknown. Whatever he was originally, he attained great power and eternal life by slowly converting himself to ice. However, the same arcane processes that preserved Grolok also kept the world in an eternal Ice Age. Thus, at the time of Mammoth's birth thousands of years later, the world remained an untamed frozen wilderness. The Ice Lord Grolok still lived, and he regularly captured villages and put their residents under his thrall.
Mammoth was a resident of one of these villages, a proud husband and father of a small girl. Mammoth was possessed by Grolok's power, where he would do his evil bidding for years. What became of his family is unknown.
But Grolok ventured too far in his quest for greater power, and opened a rift that sucked Mammoth into an alternate reality: ours. Mammoth's bondage to Grolok was severed, although he still retained some of his strength. When Mammoth realized where he was, his heart broke as he saw all the world could be had Grolok never kept his own world frozen.
But Grolok had also seen into this new alternate Earth and saw the potential for a whole new world to enslave. Grolok is amassing his minions and planning to launch and army straight into Millennium City. Mammoth is doing everything he can to protect the new Earth and prepare it for Grolok's inevitable invasion.
Basic Personality Profile
Despite Mammoth's hardships, he remains a generally good spirited person. He delights in sharing the traditions of his people, including music and storytelling. Such stories are often barely-concealed brags about physical conquests, usually greatly exaggerated. Despite what Mammoth has claimed in such stories, he has never killed anything with his bare hands more menacing than a spider.
Mammoth takes his traditions very seriously. Bravery is his utmost value and those who display it gain his sincere reverence. Those who lack it gain his absolute contempt.
Though many assume otherwise, Mammoth is not intimidated by the technological world in which he now finds himself. He is proficient in technology to the same degree as the average American, is aware of the difference between technology and magic, and eagerly learns new technologies and devices. That said, one of Mammoth's mottos is "No point in using a hyper-poly-alloy neutronic death ray where a good axe will do just as well."
Powers and Abilities
Most of Mammoth's abilities are simply extensions of his training and experience as a warrior. These abilities are enhanced, however, by his lingering link to Grolok's arcane energies.
Strength
The most obvious of his latent energies from his link to Grolok, Mammoth's strength is superhuman.
One-Handed Weapons
Mammoth is proficient with the sword, the axe, and the mace, all of which he uses to equally effective deadliness in combat.
Known Weaknesses
Thrall
Mammoth has yet to completely disentangle himself from Grolok's powers. Thus, when they both occupy the same reality, Grolok through a great amount of effort can still dominate Mammoth. (note: when this happens, Mammoth becomes a leader and member of NEMESIS!, the NPC supergroup of villains)
Melee Exclusive
Mammoth believes in addressing conflicts head-on. As such, he has no means of handling opponents at range except for closing the distance through lashing with a chain or lunging.
Erratic
It could be called "mood swings" but Mammoth can rapidly shift from genial and gregarious to angry and hostile, and back again. He makes and discards friends quickly, as well as enemies.
