The Sanctum Ordinem (Holy Order) is a religious cult that was formed in the early 1800's; their deity is a Goddess known as "Aeral'ith". It is currently unknown whether this deity actually exists, but the Order's members claim that she is watching the Earth, waiting for the "Time of Descent".

The "Time of Descent" is the event that the Order hopes to bring about - they wish to grant Aeral'ith physical access to the Earth by means of a large magical portal that links the universe to the "Oculus Gurges"; They believe that by doing this, Aeral'ith will be able to shape the Earth into the "Perfect World"; a world in which suffering, disease, and war are non-existent.

Although the Sanctum Ordinem was not formed until the early 1800's, Aeral'ith was still worshipped as a deity by small unestablished groups as far back as the ancient Roman era; it was originally believed that to worship Her was to gain a place in the "Perfect World" - and this belief carries on through to the present day.

The deity's origins are still unknown; how "Her Holiness" came into existence is unclear, but various members of the Order have stated that she inhabits a limbo plane known as the "Oculus Gurges" - literally translated as "Eye of the storm"; It is a place comparable to space, but it functions differently.

In the Oculus Gurges, no stars shine; it is simply a massive expanse of pitch blackness, the only source of light being Aeral'ith's glow. Somewhere within the Oculus Gurges is a large swirling red "eye" - the reasoning behind its colouration would be because of redshift, a condition where light is travelling quickly away from the observer; the light that the eye sucks in is generated by the deity, since She is the only source of light within the area; It is unknown what this phenomena actually is. There is no atmosphere within this realm, and movement is impossible without some kind of propulsion - much like in space.

It is said that Aeral'ith is a celestial entity, with a divine nature; however, some of the Order's soldiers have certain auras or appearances that contradict this belief. To say that Aeral'ith is evil would be considered a blasphemous act, as her followers are completely convinced of her divine nature. Further evidence that can be used against the deity's supposed divinity is the appearance of the creatures that the Order associates itself with; they are often twisted angelic creatures, radiating a dulled holy power to those who are able to see into auras. Order members claim that these entities are given life by Aeral'ith herself, and then sent into the material universe to aid the Sanctum Ordinem in their goals.
