Background

The rightful heir to the Nebarren Sovereignty, Prince Spes'Lor Kar'Ma'At'Karan was deposed in a violent coup just as he was about to ascend to the throne. The conspiracy was apparently so deep that many of the more influential Nebarren generals were involved, leaving the prince's options limited to either surrendering or fleeing. With the help of his fiance and his personal attendant, Eelu, he was able to commandeer a small spacecraft capable of sustaining long distance travel. His fiance informed him that he should set a course for a planet called earth, whose inhabitants would be able to provide him with an army and a fleet with which to return and take back his throne. Confused and frightened, the prince had little choice but to go along with his fiance's suggestion, and thus, set out for earth with Eelu in tow.

Even with the advanced FTL systems present in the Nebarren spacecraft, it still took several months for the prince and his attendant to reach earth. Having little knowledge of landing or even flying a craft of any kind, the prince's entry into earth's atmosphere was less than smooth. He ended up crashing somewhere in the Nevada desert, and instead of the warm reception he was expecting from this supposedly altruistic planet, he was greeted by several hundred guns pointed at him. The PRIMUS soldiers, as he found out they were called, escorted the prince and Eelu to the Project Greenskin base where they were interrogated extensively. The prince refused to answer any of their questions, leaving Eelu, who had no translator and a very basic understanding of English, struggling to explain why they had come to earth and that they posed no threat to its denizens. The prince was eventually released and given permission to operate on earth as a registered superhero, even though he had no intention of doing so. PRIMUS gave him the moniker "Space Lord" because of his status and relative similarity to his name. The prince took it as some sort of veneration and accepted the name.

Over the next few weeks, the prince would learn that earth was quite different from what his fiance described. For one, it was not even located in their home galaxy of Andromeda. Secondly, the inhabitants seemed none to eager to assist him in reclaiming his throne, and third, humans had not even advanced to the point of developing FTL travel. Demoralized and defeated, the prince was about to give up until he found a kindred spirit: a Tellurian, long standing allies of the Nebarrens, named Captain Taranis. Taranis explained that the only way to get earth's inhabitants to trust the prince enough to help regain his position would be to help them first; give a little to get a little. Understanding this concept, the prince vowed he would assist the earthmen in any way that he could so that one day, perhaps, he could take back his throne.

Presently the prince has learned much from his time on earth and has grown somewhat (very little) from the spoiled ruler he once was. He has enjoyed the status and recognition he's received from acting as a hero within the metahuman community, and it has almost been enough to make him forget about his former life. He still intends to go back one day and confront his usurpers, but for now, he is content with his position on earth.

Recent Events

Through the help of a Star*Guardian, Kann Karoth, the prince was able to contact his homeworld for the first time since his arrival on earth. What he discovered horrified and enraged him. His fiance, Sorun, has seized power for herself, the first queen to rule the Sovereignty without a king. Life for the average Nebarren has gotten slightly worse under her reign, but the people have been kept complacent with propaganda campaigns besmirching the reputation of the previous ruling family. The military has also begun mobilizing for some unknown operation, which Kann Karoth suspects to be preparation for a full scale attack. But why now? And against whom? These are questions the prince will need quick answers to if he is to have any hope of reclaiming his throne...

Personality

Prince Spes'Lor is a jerk, simply put. His conservative ideals and royal upbringing quite often bring him into conflict with the views of other, more liberal heroes; and his outspoken, tactless nature has done little to win him any friends. Despite this behavior, his heart is in the right place, and though he can appear selfish most (all) of the time, he is genuinely concerned for the well-being of his people. He finds humanity to be a strange, immature species, but charming at times. He has a general dislike for anything of the occult, and will often have extreme reactions to things he believes are evil or unnatural.

Equipment

Aidon's Vengeance

Named for a fabled weapon of Nebarren legend, the prince's technological opus is likely his greatest accomplishment to date. This incredibly advanced exoskeleton is an amalgam of Nebarren and human technologies, marrying the engineering strengths of each with few of the weaknesses. Lightweight, durable, and packed with enough force to level a street corner, Aidon's Vengeance stands as a testament to the prince's ingenuity.

  • Kendrium Exoskeleton - The sleek exterior of the suit is comprised of Kendrium and carbon nanotubes, making it quite impervious to damage.
  • Singularity Drive - Taking a cue from the Gadroon, Spes'Lor equipped the Vengeance with a singularity drive, which is where the bulk of its offensive capabilities are derived. It grants the prince a degree of control over gravity, as well as allowing him to create forcefields for added protection.
  • Orbital Medical Unit Designed for Stitching (O.M.U.D.S.) - Although not technically part of the suit itself, the two metal spheres that orbit the prince's body are no less vital to his survival. Should the worst happen, the orbs are able to alleviate any of the prince's wounds to get him back into the fight. They can also be set to an offensive mode.
  • Helmet (of Vengeance) - Spes'Lor's old helmet serves as the exoskeleton's eyes and ears. It is equipped with a sophisticated IFF as well as both infrared and sonic vision modes.

Universal Translator

Although fully capable of learning and pronouncing any of earth's languages, the prince opted for the easy way out and relies heavily on the universal translator he carried with him from his homeworld. It works by first deciphering a language based on vocabulary and known grammar rules. It then filters any words spoken in the language through a hidden earpiece which translates the dialog in real-time for the prince. As the prince speaks, it works in reverse, translating Nebarren words into English. Others would hear this as the prince's voice, more or less, with a slight metallic twinge.

Allies and Enemies

Friendly

Neutral

Hostile

  • Hor'Ut Ee'Yun'At'Sorun - The ex-fiance of the prince. Her role in the coup that overthrew him has earned her the prince's ire, and he will stop at nothing to see her brought to justice, which in Nebarren terms means she will likely become food for a juruncivox.
  • Swarm Lord - A great general of the K'zthkindi race, Swarm Lord and his kin are sworn enemies of the Nebarrens after an impossibly long war between the two species. Though it is long over, there is still great enmity between Nebarrens and K'zthkindi, which extends, of course, to Swarm Lord and Space Lord.

When tabloid reporters asked teen-hero Trixie for comment on Space Lord, she reputedly said, "He's.. a ..nice.. guy..."

"He makes me wish I hadn't been trained in diplomatic relations. I just want to sock him one on the chin and tell him to grow up. I mean how far can you crawl up your own a--Hey why is the light blinking? You said we were off the record! Uuuuh...Spess'lor is great! An exemplar of his people and a hero in the truest sense of the word. Turn it off now. Seriously. That was really unfair." - Stargirl, courtesy of an UNTIL service evaluation.
