Personality
Originally, Nick was simply a delinquent angry at the world due to his inability to control his powers of fear manipulation causing a few major tragedies in his life, the greatest of which was the death of his sister. Coupled with constant losses of his friends from hate crimes, Nick was pushed over the edge and his mind was twisted, giving him a much more cynical look at the world and its workings. Because of his belief that he was the chosen one who would save the planet from self annihilation, he began taking up a more stately and formal manner and added a blend of charm and class which sickened his enemies. It's nearly unbelievable that THE Azure Terror, THE Ultimate Nightmare, THE man who slaughtered so many was so gracious a host.
Even after he refuted his former ways, he still maintains this class which rivals that of a Bond Villain.
Nick carries himself in a sophisticated manner, always maintaining a straight posture and using a much more formal diction than people would be accustomed to hearing. Despite this, he doesn't view himself as better than anyone and will open himself up to criticisms by those around him, simply smiling at each one as if to say "Thank you." He does try to increase his number of connections, but will back off if it's made clear the person isn't interested. Many would probably see him as and arrogant putz with his head up his ass, but those who actually know him would easily refute this.
Philosophy on Crime
"You call me a monster. No, I am no monster. I'm simply doing as science has shown. These criminals are nothing less than untrained mice searching for their way to riches. This world is like a laboratory experiment for them and two doors have been given, a right and a wrong. Both lead to the same reward, their 'cheese' if you will, but the wrong door is hooked to a generator and filled with several hundred volts of electricity. Even touching the door will give a slight jolt, just as committing your first crime does. In the end, the mouse will learn that the wrong will bring only pain and to choose the right door. I am that generator. My methods may be excessive, but science has taught that they are effective. Actions which result in negative stimuli will not be repeated if the stimulus is applied enough times. But... sometimes there is no hope for the person. They simply are too ignorant to understand, so.. they must be put down before they endanger others any further."
History
"I have spent my life under a false banner, leading thousands to fight for my cause. Unneeded deaths have occurred in my wake. Some of the lost were dear to me. I shall carry their memories as I seek my redemption."
The Revenant Lives
Nightmare had been defeated by Scatach, Pureblood Asuya, Adamantine Man, and The White Demon. His plan was to combine the realm and his Nightmare Realm to allow him to take control of both and remake into a utopia for all. While the heroes were celebrating their victory and Asuya was about to deliver the killing blow, the tower which was acting as a conduit to the Nightmare Realm began to tear apart and was creating a vortex into the Void. Nick saw this and pleaded that they allow him to fix what he had created, wanting to make up for the bloodshed he had caused in the past. He was loaded into the tower and sent up, using all of his strength to close the portal. Unfortunately, the excess energy had to go somewhere and it all began to flow through him freely, tearing apart his body until there was seemingly nothing left. His fortress had collapsed upon itself and they watched, believing him dead.
Minutes passed until his hand burst from the rubble, its gauntlet transfigured from the chaotic energy. He tore through the sky in a new armor, one formed entirely by Nightmarium, a metal which is found only in the Nightmare Realm though has been discovered in the ruins of his fortress and castle. He thanked the four heroes for their mercy and left after freeing his then love, Amirala, from a convoy leading to Stronghold.
Over the next few weeks, he began working on a new and lighter suit with which to begin his journey of atonement. Dubbing it the Revenant's Shadow, he took it upon himself to stop corruption and anyone standing in the way of the pursuit of happiness as " The Revenant".
Exploits and Activity
January 16, 2013: Nick had overheard a pair of heroes talking about a "Wanda Richards" and how one of them wanted to capture her to teach her a lesson. After approaching the hero, named Psionix, he learned that Mrs. Richards had fallen back to a life of crime and pledged to capture her for Psionix. He'd found the other hero, Silver Solitaire, and had spoken with her about Wanda, finding out she only went on a crime spree after a serum had made her berserk for a short time. On this day, he found Wanda and defeated her, taking her to his hideout to find out what all had happened so as to get the full story. Upon learning the truth, he knocked her out and sent her to the MCPD, where she is currently detained... though not after promising he'd do what he can to get her sentence reduced since she was not in control during her rampage.
January 29-30, 2013: Late at night, Nick had heard of a Slave Farm in Westside being run by the Red Banner. Evidently, women were being kidnapped, raped until they were pregnant and then their children were raised before being sold to slavery, the process repeating until the women could not give birth anymore. He found the building where the Farm was and went in to investigate, not noticing that he was being followed by another vigilante Lorna Pyrel. Inside he found tables where the impregnated women would give birth, tools used to operate on them, and lastly the women being kidnapped as well as the product of their conception. Nine Red Banner thugs were also present and promptly dealt with by the combined efforts of Lorna and Nick. The women and children were freed and are currently being treated at Mercy.
Powers and Abilities
Chaos Magic
Nick is a master of chaos magic and can manipulate the chaos energy around him to use for a variety of attacks.
- Chaotic Enhancement: Jokingly called the "Chao-Ken!" by me, Nick can increase his speed, strength, stamina, and agility by releasing a small amount of chaos energy and allowing it to mix with his body's natural mana.
- Chaos Shielding: The ability to form bubbles or forcefields using chaos energy has proven useful time and again. Sometimes, just for an edge in battle, he'll create small ones to engulf his fists and cause even more damage to his opponents upon contact
- Chaotic Imbument: He is able to imbue any weapon with chaos energy, increasing its hardness, sharpness, durability, and strength.
- Chaos Blade: He is able to form up weapons out of hardened chaos energy which have the same traits as a chaotically imbued weapon. Generally creates claws.
Please note, he does not use the following anymore unless the situation is dire.
- Chaos Bolt: A standard attack, he fires shards of chaos energy at his opponents.
- Blade of Chaos: He is able to form a sword made of pure chaos energy and use it as a weapon. The blade proves to be able to cut through almost anything.
- Chaos Spear: One of his signature attacks, Nick forms a spear out of pure chaos energy and throws it at his enemies, usually piercing or impaling them.
- Chaos Blast: His most destructive attack, Nick absorbs the chaos energy around him into his hands, eventually firing a blast that can leave a hole 15 yards in diameter in solid steel if it is fully charged.
- Chaos Eruption: Nick sucks in chaos energy around him and releases it in a blast sphere surrounding him.
Fear Magic
Nightmare is able to manipulate fear to his advantage.
- Fear Zone: Nick can create an area that, when breached, brings the darkest fears of the intruder to life.
- Nightmare Feeding: Nick is also able to heal himself by absorbing the fear of those around him.
- Senses of Fear: While not an attack, Nick is somehow able to literally see fear as if it is a tangible object. He can hear, see, smell, feel, and taste the fear of anyone around him.
- Embrace of Darkness: He's able to meld with the shadows and use them as means of transportation and teleportation. Some instances have shown him even hiding in a thin tree shadow and pulling an enemy in with him. It's as if he uses them as portals to another realm.
Weaknesses
- Celestial/Holy: Thanks to his corruption from using so much chaos energy, he suffers a severe weakness to Holy/Celestial magic and weapons. The mere touch of these have been known to burn his skin and a cut can send him writing in pain.
- His own Magic: His greatest asset, his chaos magic, also acts as a double edged sword. With each spell he casts, his life is shortened thanks to his body's corruption spreading. Nick has tried to find a way to lessen the effects of this and has proven moderately successful. Though the corruption has slowed, it still continues to spread and will eventually take his life.
Equipment
- Revenant's Shadow: Created using a thin layer of Nightmarium, the Revenant's Shadow is a versatile suit of black and azure colors. It features immunity to most street-legal bullets and can withstand even the toughest stabs. Thanks to a newer update, it has become even stronger with no loss of versatility, able to take armor piercing rounds with little to no damage at all and can even withstand up to 50Gs of force with little to no trauma. The mask acts as a gas mask and can ventilate most known substances. It also masks his voice with a ward which echoes and deepens it (Most compare it to sounding similar to the Lich King's). The suit also features wards which cause any damage inflicted on the suit to reverb back to the attacker, though the amount is only a low percentage (typically 10%).
- Revenant's Claw: The right bracer features a large, titanium claw which he imbues with Chaos Energy to make even more deadly.
- Revenant Wrist: The left bracer is a giant wrist computer that is linked to his home. It allows him to instantly teleport there should his magic be disabled and features a forensic scanner. An addition allows it to store items for use, ranging from hydrogen gas balls to freezing grenades to plastic explosives to.. well, you get the idea.
- Wraithcycle: A new addition to his arsenal of tools, the Wraithcycle is a heavily armored and customized Kawasaki Ninja. It features twin barrels in the front for combat and both can switch between a variety of ammo, ranging from .32 Caliber bullets to plasma rounds.
- Flying Wraith: Another new addition, this one a modified Copperhead Anti-Grav Bike in black and dark blue colors. It has a much sleeker design and is compatible with many vehicular weapons and defense systems.
