On Empyreans

Empyrean Heritage: For hundreds of thousands of years, the immortal superhuman offshoot of humanity called Empyreans have existed alongside their human cousins. While they maintain their own city of Arcadia in Antarctica, hidden from human discovery by advanced devices, the majority of Empyreans choose to live incognito among humanity. The general population is ignorant of their existence; only a few superheroes have been trusted with the secret, although the Lemurians know of Arcadia and have been enemies of the Empyreans for many millennia. A few Empyreans have acted as superheroes or villains in the modern era.

Empyreans sometimes have children by humans, who are always either normal humans or full Empyreans. These children may grow up unaware of their true heritage; but the Empyreans' leaders scan the world for any new Empyrean offspring, and when they discover one induct him or her into their society. But individual Empyreans can follow whatever activities they like, provided they don't reveal their race's existence to mankind.

All Empyreans are ageless, physically superhuman to a greater or lesser extent, and can fly. They can manifest a wide range of mental or energy powers, although the type and degree varies based on innate ability and the interest a given Empyrean has in developing specific powers, usually related to their preferred pastimes. The Empyreans and Arcadia are extensively described in Hidden Lands.

Origin

Named after the first king of Atlantis, Vondarien is the son of Shaderon the Wise, a powerful second generation Empyrean who constructed the Temple of Silence in Arcadia and founded the Philosophy of Silence, leading many Empyrean's to cast aside their physical forms to attain a higher state of being. As a supporter of Empyrean king Amlin, Vondarien always saw the value in honor and justice, however he also saw the threat that knowledge of Empyrean's could impose upon humanity and the need to keep their existence secret. Following the death of Amlin at the hands of the jealous Ogurn, and the rise of power of Hazor in the wake of his disappearance. Vondarien having lost his leader, and having rebelled against the philosophies of his father immersed himself in arcane studies for centuries, causing his Cosmic Magic to manifest itself as his power. Taking the surname Shaderon in honor of his father he left Arcadia to pursue further knowledge in the world of the humans. Though relatively unknown to humans, save for all but the most adept and powerful sorcerers of the current generation. Vondarien is highly regarded and respected among-st the Empyrean's of Arcadia. As the only Empyrean to have taken an interest in and developing an affinity for magic he stands as one of the most universally powerful sorcerers on earth wielding advanced sorcery that would baffle the minds of even the most adept and erudite of mages.

Powers

Immortality - Empyreans are naturally immortal, they do not age, get sick, or feel the passing of time as humans do.

Cosmic Magic - Traditional Magic defies reality, creating something from nothing, it is the nature of the unexplained and can be broken down into various types and lines of study. Cosmic Magic, of which Vondarien is one of the most powerful users as a descendant of Shaderon the Wise, differs greatly from the arcane. As Cosmic magic, unlike the Traditional forms, controls and bends reality to the will of the user as opposed to outright defying it. Cosmic Magic is the magic of Control upon reality and all its forms. Its only limit, being knowledge and skill in its use and the innate magical gifts, potency and willpower of the user. Also unlike traditional magic, Vondarien's Cosmic Magic requires no memorization of spells or utterance of incantations, casting of sigils or special circles or reliance on mystical artifacts to cast. It is the magic of mind over reality and is cast through the assertion of ones willpower and mana on the universe around them. This form of magic while teachable is completely unlearn-able by races that lack the ability to live for centuries naturally.

Minor Telepathic Influence - Due to the scholastic nature of Vondarien, much like the Empyrean ruler of Lemuria, King Arvad, Vondarien is capable of telepathically influencing the minds of others, however unlike Arvad this is only to minute and ever so slight degrees. This ability however makes him incredibly resistant to forms of telepathy and psionics used against him.

Flight- All Empyreans are born with the gift of flight.

Knowledge Scry - Vondarien is capable of siphoning small amounts of arcane knowledge from his opponents in battle, furthering his understanding of magic as a whole gradually over time.
