Appearance & Personality

Ever elusive, Weaver is rarely caught out of costume, and when she is there is usually something covering her face. From what can be gathered in those instances where she is without her body armour, it's clear that the armour was made to intentionally bulk out her silhouette to give her a more brawny and intimidating appearance on top of serving as protection from attackers. Without it Weaver is a diminutive and slight thing, skin having only hints of a natural tan and no taller than five foot three, and with a build totally lacking any robustness with only the faint signs of regular exercise on her body. All in all Weaver is simply a girl with powers at the end of the day, lacking the statuesque and filled out statures of her peers.

Weaver is a girl who tries, and this is telegraphed in her personality. At times she can comes across caricaturish in her efforts to be a hero, regurgitating corny lines she has heard from popular heroes and repurposing them for her own mouth, but her efforts are earnest in nature. It should be noted that there is a difference between Weaver and the girl behind the mask, but the one aspect is steadily taking over another as Weaver attempts to separate herself from her previous identity. When not in a situation not requiring her attempts at being heroic Weaver is a quiet girl who, in spite of her rather introverted disposition, is prone to talking too much about certain topics - most notably the one informed by her primary ability, superpowers. Although often growing nervous in social settings involving more than one other person, Weaver puts up a commendable effort at hiding it, to the point where it would require technology or an ability to notice the extent of her nerves.

What stands out rather ominously from this picture of a young girl is how, in the appropriate situations, she can 'flip the switch' and become highly in tune with the thinking and methodology of criminals and supervillains, as if such matters were second nature to her.

History

Nightbeat, Nightbeat II & the Maulers

Being born to one of the most feared and respected names in New England could be considered a bad start to a life for most, but Nightbeat was on paper a perfect single father and his superpowered gang, the Maulers, a supportive community dash family for the young Weaver. Although never once encouraged to partake in their lifestyle, she none the less was an observer to most of it, and from that Weaver attained her knowledge and intuition on the superbusiness. Even when her powers awoke at the age of six, Nightbeat encouraged his daughter to follow her own path in life, something which she took to heart. Besides living under threat from the authorities (which was unlikely to succeed and rarely acted upon) Weaver did not grow up wanting, given basic assistance with her powers when she activated, taught how to defend herself with the help of the Maulers and educated by a fellow superhuman intellect, Mentor, in everything from the precise sciences to english literature. Although lacking any qualifications, Weaver was prepared to follow whatever path she chose for herself. She chose heroism - but this was not an entirely unprovoked decision.

The Maulers had a long-standing rival within Massachusetts, the Bright Family. A superteam of blood relatives all with 'bright' related abilities had opposed the Maulers from the day they had established themselves, and continued to even with PRIMUS advisories to local heroes to leave them alone. The reasons for this fued remain mostly unknown to Weaver, and she had little reason to care growing up. Engagements between the Maulers and Bright's would repeat - the Brights would catch members of the Maulers off guard, who would hold them off until Nightbeat could arrive, who would then handily drive the Bright's off. However, one night the Bright's succeeded in their efforts by taking the fight to the home of the Maulers while the supercriminals were out of costume, truly ususpecting of the coming confrontation. The ensuing battle was not quite like the others, enthused and confident at finally having the upper hand over their long-time nemesis the Bright family fought with a fervour which Nightbeat could only hold off. He directed the rest of the Maulers to flee with his daughter, leaving him to be finally captured by the Bright's incarcerated. With their leader so suddenly taken from them the Maulers looked to his daughter for leadership, naming her Nightbeat in his place and hoping she would take up the reigns - and lead she did. For a year, and with the help of the Maulers most senior member, she guided the Maulers from safehouse to safehouse until they could find a place to settle. Only when she knew they were safe did she decide to leave their company, and move somewhere else for a fresh start.

Moving to Michigan

Of course, moving away for a new start usually requires funds, and at the time Weaver simply had none. It's easier said than done for a girl in her mid-teens to move to a different state, and without any assistance or money she found herself relying on the kindness of strangers as she moved from Boston to Michigan, through Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio until she reached her destination. A journey which could have taken a day took over a week as she juggled looking after herself and hitching rides from place to place. It was a brief time for Weaver which served as an effective wakeup call for her, and allowed her to take part in the herosim she would decide to take up. A story of a vigilante who wove webs of steel and moved in a wave of glittering dust popped up in New York state, a briefly lived story which hopped from town to town, state to state depending on where she was staying at any one time. Finally, the Weaver found her way to Millennium City.

Powers & Abilities

  • Silicon Manipulation: The most evident but not the most powerful of Weaver's powerset is her fine control over silicon in its many forms, be it the sand of the desert, glass, precious stones or the trauma plates in ballistic vests, Weaver can mould, move and change Silicon both in her hands and at a distance. While her control over small and manageable amounts is great, she lacks the ability to move and control large amounts of silicon, and trying to do so causes a stunningly painful 'power headache'.
  • Superhuman Intelligence: As expected of someone with superhuman intellect, Weaver is rather well traveled in many fields of knowledge, but less so than someone who is just superhumanly intelligent. Hers is a specialized form of intelligence with an odd trait - it gives her an inherent understanding of superpowers (mutations and/or modifications to the base being which allow for feats beyond their usual capabilities), allowing her to visualize applications of superpowers displayed before her, weaknesses, limitations and much more. This power is Weaver's 'primary' and most powerful ability, applicable on a universal scale rather than just the human; If she is exposed to a metaalien, she can identify that it is an irregular and what its irregularities allow for and so on. What exactly qualifies as a superpower according to her power is rather vague, but all that matters is that it is an absurdly useful ability.
