Basic Information

Zone is difficult to create a singular, logical, set of stats, powers, histories, and attributes for, because there are multiples of him scattered across various dimensions. The Zone from the Champions Universe, is actually a villain. The one which is played/RP'd is NOT typically the Zone from the Champions Universe. These two are called Zone Alpha (from the Champions Universe) and Zone Prime (From a different universe.)

There is no known 'original' Zone. The only thing most commonly shared is their physical features, but not always. Their names, origins, and personalities differ tremendously based on their environment and upbringing. Further in, a full list of Zone's other 'selves' will be added. But for now, just remember Alpha is Evil, and Prime is Good. We'll get into Beta and Asimov later.

Background and History

Alpha Origins

Alpha's true name is Zack Lawson. He was a troubled child; bullied at school, he lived in a poor family, and he had sociopathic tendencies. He started getting his life in order as a teenager, and looked like he was on the right track. However, at the age of 20, his college science group was on an excursion, when the lab was attacked by a villain simply named Nemesis.

Nemesis made no public ransom demands, and made the odd decision to separate Zack from the group. Zack witnessed Nemesis's clever martial arts skills and ability to move through wormholes using high-tech wristbands. After the battle, nemesis set them aside, within view of Zack, and left the room.

Zack was able to break free of his duct-tape bindings to reach the dimensional bracelets on his own. Upon putting them on, he heard a voice in his head, calling itself Asimov. Asimov activated a function in the bracelet which coated Zack in a nano-suit which enhanced his strength and agility. Then Zone used the bracelets to vanish from his dimension, and out of captivity.

Prime Origins

In a different dimension entirely, a different Zack Lawson led a similar upbringing but made different choices. Ultimately, he became a sort of Robin Hood figure, operating by night as a vigilante, while being just a dude on the streets during the day. He had his own costume, and operated under the identity of Nemesis.

This Zack Prime was working to rescue a crew of hostages from a powerful gang. He'd spent weeks infiltrating and gaining their trust, only for his journey to come down to a final test. He wasn't supposed to know this test, but through his sneaking around, he discovered his final challenge was to execute the hostages he intended to rescue. Zack was kept in a holding cell plotting his next move.

Before he had a chance to decide, his body was displaced by Zack Lawson Alpha, who had just escaped being a hostage himself. He suddenly found himself in a science facility, with a completely different set of hostages. There, the villainous 'Nemesis' attacked him stealthily, clearly out to kill. Zack Prime took a few stabs from a knife, but succeeded in defeating Nemesis, only to unmask him as see his own face laughing at him. The enemy nemesis used a smoke bomb to escape, and Prime took the blame for the capture.

Alpha's Travels

When Zack Alpha jumped dimensions, he displaced Zack Prime. The two basically switched places. Zack Alpha found himself in a dingy room with a thuggish brute ordering him to complete the final test. Alpha, thinking it was part of Asimov's initiation, complied, and shot the hostages without flinching. He was allowed into the gang, and gave himself a new name; "Zone."

With information from Asimov, Zone Alpha learned that he was just one of an infinite number of Zack Lawsons with different lives, different jobs, and different origins. They existed across the vast multiverse in different times and places, but they all shared the same basic self. Alpha, seeing opportunity, traveled all across the various dimensions for several years, displacing and transferring other Zones without care. He established a network of informants, allies, and enemies, and acquired new technologies to supplement his own. Finally he discovered a very strange dimensional rift back to his homeworld, four years into the past.

Alpha acquired a brand new dimensional bracelet, and vanished back in time under the name Nemesis. He found his younger self touring with the science group, and took them hostage. Alpha set up his own rise to power, intending to murder whichever Zone portaled in to fake his own death.

However, the Zone which arrived, Prime, was much more of a challenge than Alpha anticipated, and Alpha was defeated. He did however escape justice with a smokebomb, leaving Prime to take the punishment, while he returned to the present.

Prime's Troubles

After being arrested for a crime Alpha committed, Prime was sentenced to jail, whereupon he was at last contacted by the enigmatic Asimov to explain the situation at last. Asimov told Zack Prime that he was to become Zone Prime, and his life would be spent cleaning up the messes that Alpha made. Asimov promised that in four years, Prime would be let out of prison, and given his own super suit.

Four years of incarceration with several super powered inmates was the best physical training Prime could have asked for. He bulked up a fair bit, and honed his fighting prowess to what limits he could against increasingly hostile prisoners. As foretold, he was granted parole, and was allowed free. Upon being freed, he was immediately met by another version of himself, Beta, who explained his role as Asimov's personal hand.

Though Zone never met Asimov personally, he received a general idea of what was happening. Due to the portal tech interfering with natural law, displaced entities could only transfer dimensions if swapped with a comparable identity. As such, whenever a Zone portaled out, a different Zone would portal in. From Alpha's travels, Zones were now scattered and mixed, while Alpha was reaping the benefits. However, due to a temporal paradox created by this dimension jumping, the Champions universe became a sort of epicenter where several Zones could exist at once.

Prime was challenged with the task of defeating Alpha, and helping to restore the intricate puzzle of displacements in Alpha's wake. Prime agreed, and became the heroic Zone the Champions universe is familiar with.

Asimov and Beta

Asimov

Asimov is the enigmatic handler to all of the various incarnations of Zone, establishing a means of communication each is comfortable with. A high-tech Zone may have a cybernetic implant, while a medieval Zone may have an enchanted sword. Though the conduits may vary, they all link to the same Asimov.

Asimov's identity is unknown, but guarantees that he or she is not another Zone. Beta claims he is from the same universe as Asimov, and confirms this. However, only Beta has ever seen it. Many of the high-tech Zones assume that Asimov is actually an artificial intelligence with connections all over. Some of the more religious Zones assume Asimov is some sort of deity. However, the one thing they all agree on, is that Asimov is a singular entity, and that is is capable of altering or concealing its identity.

Asimov has proven capable of altering the space-time continuum, through such acts as making a wall turn into a door, or providing weapons, items, and information as needed. However, it is incapable of altering free will, so it cannot change living things. It adamantly remains a neutral party with regard to all of the various Zones, including the villainous Alpha. Asimov claims that the dimensional shifting of Zone began long before Alpha, and that Alpha's actions which seemingly mix up the puzzle, in the end are necessary to complete it.

Beta

The mysterious Asimov does not work entirely alone. A Zone which refers to himself as Beta acts as a mediator and mitigator. When Zone Prime gets displaced to a different world, Beta will often fill in his spot to keep his momentum going. Though he has never openly stated it, it is assumed Beta is actually Alpha from a future timeline, working to erase the mistakes of his past. There is no proof of this.

Beta is equipped with a suit of protective armor which differs from the other Zones.
