[hide]History
Early Life
Born and raised in Detroit before it became Millennium City, Brad Steele always had a desire to seek truth buried beneath the dust of time. He thus chose to become an archaeologist that specialized in pre-human relics and myth-tech long considered the stuff of legend, and very soon become a prominent and respected one - plenty to draw attention from UNTIL, whom he worked under through contracts to uncover ancient relics.
'The Discovery’
That all changed on the day where he was exploring a dig site regarding a mysterious pre-human civilization -one believed by some to predate even the Lemurians- in a long-buried ruin beneath the Andes, Brad uncovered the Aegis Reliquary, a sarcophagus-like containment unit sealed by unbreakable alloy and inscribed with warnings in dozens of dead languages.
The Incident
Upon touching the relic, it opened itself and engulfed Brad with a wave of radiant energy - rewriting his biology and igniting what ancient myth-tech engineers called the Justicar Protocol: a failsafe designed by that ancient civilization to empower a worthy mortal with divine might in times of moral collapse, during which injustice threatens to overtake the world once more.
Brad was chosen not just for his proximity… but his unwavering sense of right.
His bones resonated with cosmic frequencies, and visions of long-dead civilizations whispered justice into his thoughts. He understood the message: the ancient world had been failed by its protectors. He would not allow history to repeat itself.
The Birth of a Hero
Brad awoke days later, changed. Now imbued by the Aegis Reliquary with superhuman strength, resilience, and flight, he was transformed into a living conduit of forgotten justice.
However, rather than answering the call right then and there, Brad decided to use his newfound powers to visit his parents and inform them about his new abilities and responsibilities.
When he arrived, he came across a most horrible sight…
His parents’ home’s living room was trashed, with all furniture turned over and their belongings strewn about, smashed and broken.
But what scared Brad most was the sight of his parents, each laying on the floor unconscious with a dark figure and what appeared to be zombies near them.
Brad rushed through the door, clobbering the figure’s undead minions to a pulp before confronting the dark figure. The latter just laughed before removing his mask to reveal the face of Brad’s former colleague and best friend Victor Lazarus. Victor explained that he blames Brad for his death; Brad and his team left Victor for dead when Brad touched the Aegis Reliquary. Brad tried to explain that he had no choice, but Victor was beyond reasoning. He unleashed the same dark energy blast that cost Brad’s parents their lives on Brad…
But Bradley Steele did not die that day.
When Brad came to, he noticed that his old friend was long gone.
Embracing the lifeless bodies of his parents one more time with tears in his eyes, Brad did the necessary arrangements for their funeral.
After a week of moarning, Captain Justice was born - a flying juggernaut wrapped in an unshakable purpose and unwavering conviction to defend the weak and innocent beyond against threats both modern and ancient, and whose very being is thus a counterbalance to evil. A reborn symbol and a last promise from a forgotten past that injustice will always meet its reckoning. All of this is fueled by the grief of having lost his parents and guilt for not being there to save them in time.
His power is thus drawn not from fame or fortune, but from a higher code: accountability, honor, duty, legacy, and truth — no matter how heavy they are to carry.
Despite his great power, Brad remains grounded. He still believes in diplomacy first. But when diplomacy fails? He beats the criminal(s) out cold.
But he knows that justice isn't just punishment - it's responsibility. It’s healing. And above all, it’s not a weapon. It’s a shield.
When Captain Justice appears overhead, villains remember: You can bury the past… but sometimes it digs back up.
But he still seeks revenge on Victor Lazarus for the death of his parents. But in the meantime, he would remain one who stands up to monsters like Lazarus.
Because someone had to become the hero he wished had come… before it was too late
Appearance
Brad Steele is a seventh generation American male, mostly of English descent. He is a 6’3’’ tall man with an athletic build that doesn't really unveil his true physical strength. His black hair is fashioned in a neat haircut and he is clean shaven, well-groomed and properly turned out at all time as a means to look as nice as he is. He speaks pure American English, with a hint of sarcasm thrown in every now and then.
As Captain Justice, he wears a nigh-indestructible and mostly yellow spandex suit with a blue line in the middle, blue rubber gloves and boots, a blue domino mask, blue briefs of sorts over his suit, and a red cape.
Personality
Brad is a very personable and friendly person, always willing to lend a helping hand and acting silly to provide some comic relief, although he's also known to be quite sarcastic. And though quickly frustrated, he has yet to actually lose his temper at all; indeed, even in some extraordinarily stressful situations, he managed to control himself.
It is safe to state that Brad will continue to display good manners and stand up for the underdog, especially in the face of injustice.
Philosophy
Captain Justice's mindset is very much like a traditional superhero; kind to innocents and allies, punishing to those who harm them. He has a deep respect for all life, but cannot simply stand by when one individual makes the life of another miserable, and therefore has a very strong code against killing, unless absolutely necessary to make sure the perpetrator would never harm an innocent again. It is therefore questionable if he strikes enemies with as much strength as he really has; it's more likely that he constantly holds back to knock them out and prevent that he'd kill them.
