The Legend that is Aaron Blackstone exists primarily in the myths and tales passed down through the ages by....no one at all, for nobody who knew him even remotely liked him....900 years ago.

An archer of astounding skill, he was also an unprincipled liar, thief, rogue, and silver-tongued lothario, he was often seen leaving towns with a score or more offended merchants and crafters that he swindled howling at his heels. Generally mixed among them would be the husbands and brothers of the women he wooed and left weeping after him.

That was until he made the mistake of seducing the wrong woman...a sorceress of no mean skill. When he assumed her drowsing, he attempted to steal some magical bracers from her collection. She caught him in the act, and in a rage, attempted to banish him to a far corner of a stygian abyss. Her spell went awry though due to her haste and rage, and she instead catapulted him into the far future.

In the modern world he was soon caught in a nest of Vipers, dealing with the malicious Dr. Asp. He was experimented upon by that nefarious scientist, his genetic structure blended with that of a cobra in an attempt to make a Viper Super Soldier. It went horribly bad, and he was left to rot in a cell.

His tale did not end that day, for Dr. Asp's hated nemesis, Miss Mayhem, caught up with her and destroyed the facility. Miss Mayhem found the hapless Blackstone and took him to Unity for treatment. The changes were mostly reversed, restoring his human form, but leaving him with extraordinary reactions and coordination.

Further analysis by magical experts proved the bracers he stole to be potent items that allowed the wearer to generate magical shields, and explosive blasts that could send foes flying.

Social circles soon had the incorrigible rogue in constant company of the beautiful mercenary Mayhem, who apparently also had a positive effect on Blackstone in turn. But a hero?

Naah.
