Vaquero is a flamboyant and exuberant man who always seems to enjoy life as much as possible. Ernesto was born into a middle class family in Guadalajara, his father a government bureaucrat who worked his way up out of a meager blue collar heritage to a comfortable life. He wanted more for his son and impressed upon him that science and engineering was the real key to the future. Ernesto, a highly imaginative if uncertain boy who had dreams of being a superhero, reluctanly gave up his childish fantasies and, upon finishing high school, enrolled in an engineering college to study Mechanical Engineering. He graduated with a bachelor's degree, though his GPA was average, a fact that his family did not approve of despite their overall support and love - something Ernesto felt despite the warmth.
He went to work for a major power armor manufacturing firm in Mexico City, a firm that supplied government agents and private security firms alike with suits. It was here he met his future wife Elicia in a dance club, and after several years they were married with a son well on the way. Ernesto worked hard but took the time to indulge in his hobbies, and despite his continued efforts to get ahead in the company, he seemed to be finally settling into contentment and forgetting about the self-doubts and stress-induced anxiety. For a while.
A day came when he was quite close to an important promotion that would finally let him into the upper echelons of the company, a move which both his wife and his family encouraged. With his status as the head of the house firm in his mind, it damn near broke him when he learned not only would he not get the promotion, he was being fired as well. His boss made it quite clear that there was no ill-will among anyone, but they needed to start cutting back, and Ernesto just wasn't particularly good - he was okay, but surpassed by many of his co-workers in ability.
Then Elicia announced she wanted a divorce. She had found another, without telling him, and talked a long while about how it wasn't working out between them. The process was long and painful, and he was left with what belongings he had as well as the ability to see his son on the weekends. Just like that, the life he knew was over, and he was just about driven mad. It was while going off the grid and wandering the streets of Mexico City that he came across an attempted mugging - he saved the poor woman, at the cost of landing himself in the hospital. While there, he experienced a feverish revelation: he would take up the call of justice full-time, as he always dreamed. He sold everything else he had, and with his bank account funds built his OWN suit of armor, one that would allow him to stand against nearly any foe. He also learned of the incentives to power-armor owners the government would offer for potential crime-fighters. It was not long before El Vaquero Tecnologico burst onto the scene.

The problems Mexico continues to face does weigh heavily on his mind, and at times he feels his efforts are mere drops of water in a vast ocean. His biggest weakness, perhaps, is a fragile ego due to the misfortunes of his past, and he absolutely detests people that look down on him. He always insists that Ernesto Gutierrez is merely a chapter in his past; today he is El Vaquero Tecnologico, and he hopes he will still be that in the future.
