Origins

The Space Dodo Saga

In a galaxy far, far away on a planet with no name, only an intergalactic planetary designation, there once lived thousands of tiny, furry creatures with no name. A relatively peaceful species with a warm, tranquil habitat with no real predation (with the exception of a rare, gigantic feline long since gone extinct whose massive skeletons would occasionally send one of the little fuzzballs into fits of terror. These were so bad that several might run off a cliff or suffer heart attacks in sheer panic from millions of years of ingrained instinct and explains Fleet's innate fear of cats in general) was visited by a ship full of intergalactic "traders" specialising in the illegal and expensive.

Low on supplies and finding themselves amidst an entire planet of easy to catch, placid little critters the enterprising men and women roasted several of the natives and consumed them. The entire crew became violently ill shortly after and it was only the symbiotic intervention of the natives, whose odd empathic abilities keenly felt the pain of the dying people, that saved their lives.

Not to be discouraged, and having found nothing of value on the planet itself, the crew loaded their hold full of the strange animals and took them to market. Their unique abilities and naturally placid, compliant nature made them highly popular to keep amongst the nobility and obscenely rich and all too soon there was a shortage.

Teams of researchers launched onto the planet found no sign of the multitudes that once existed, only five lone males and two females, and quickly declared it a protected zone. Shortly after, the two females and a male died after a backfiring spacecraft frightened them enough to run off a cliff. The remaining males eventually died of unknown causes, though several of the more romantic reporters suggested they died of heartbreak, and the species was declared extinct in the wild.

Existing specimens remain in zoos or private collections and individuals fetch a high price on the black market.

Powers

Just what CAN Fleet do anyway?

Tracking

Fleet's species are natural psychics. They have a unique mixture of telepathy and empathy that they use to communicate without any chance of being misunderstood. This ability is what allows Fleet to find anyone, anywhere even without the use of an address. More than that, she can feel the intent a person has towards another and this allows her to deliver only those packages she deems "safe". No hidden bombs or tracking devices in this mail service! Unless that's what you ordered.

Empathy

Fleet constantly feels what others feel around her. If the emotion is strong enough, however, this can affect her badly. Strong emotions pressing on her from an outside source cause her to feel the same and, in some cases, begin to project that emotion outwards onto other individuals nearby.

Mind Reading

Fleet cannot read the majority of minds without a physical connection usually made through either her tongue or tail. Both of these feature tiny, white tendrils that are usually hidden from view which she can insert under the skin and painlessly join with another's central nervous system. Across this link, feelings, thoughts and memories are shared instantly without error.

Healing

As a symbiotic creature, though uniquely one that can survive without a host, Fleet can use her physical connection to aid the healing of others or herself. She's fast to heal but, except when travelling at superspeeds, relatively fragile.

Adaptability

Fleet adapts to whatever environment she's in. She can happily run across the ocean floor or it's surface at speeds no manned aircraft can currently reach without harm. The most visually obvious sign of her ability to change is her tendency to near instantaneously develop a thicker, warmer fur coat during cold weather.

Superspeed

Fleet is fast. Ridiculously fast. She's easily able to reach china and back again in a day and does so for special deliveries. This comes at a cost however. Her metabolism, already high, skyrockets after such intense bouts of physical activity and she often ends up in the nearest hospital guzzling high-sugar liquids for hours before sleeping. Due to this it's rare for her to make such a delivery and, normally, such deliveries are medical in nature. In a given day, however, she can be seen streaking across Millenium City making near-instant deliveries of packages and mail.

Telekinesis

Her powerful psychic abilities do extend to lifting heavy objects with her mind. Were she to apply that power it's likely she could lift entire buildings at a whim and smash them together like a child with wooden blocks. Fortunately for the world at large, this is entirely passive. Whilst studies on her species' do indicate they are capable of massive feats of telekinetic power...in practise they're rarely seen to do anything. Some even doubt they have any telekinetic ability at all. It seems to react more to their needs or wants than any conscious input. One researcher observed a single specimen failing to climb a tree to reach a fruit. The creature huffed, sniffled and looked so entirely pathetic that they had thought to go reach the fruit down for it when the tree was lifted out of the ground, shaken until the fruit fell into it's hands, and then returned to the soil.
