Glacierpoint (born Lee Yun-seung 이 윤승, 8 July 1996) is a Korean intermediate hero and mutant. He first arrived in the United States for a job transfer his mother took in Los Angeles at the age of 12. Throughout his life, however, he has experienced growing changes about his genetic structure that would make him susceptible to heat and, ultimately, the ability to control and create ice.

Life in Seoul

Glacierpoint was born as Lee Yun-seung on 8 July 1996. He is the only child of mother Lee Seo-yun and father Lee Jin-taek. Yun-seung would first show signs of change at the age of five when his hair follicles started to gradually change color from black to a blue shade. It would not be noticeable at first but as years passed by, it became more and more obvious. Due to this, it would be difficult for Yun-seung to make friends at school as a child. He was always teased about his hair color, and would also be bullied because of them.

At the age of 10, Yun-seung would completely have light blue hair, and people would notice that he is cold to the touch. It was something that neither parent could ignore anymore. Because of this, Yun-seung would immediately be taken to his family doctor. The only thing the doctor would find wrong with Yun-seung is his body temperature. It was 24°C. After declaring time and time again that he felt fine and there was nothing wrong, his family doctor referred him to the best specialists in Seoul. He was referred to neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, endocrinologists, and geneticists.

During this time, he would continuously be in and out of the hospital, laboratories, and other testing facilities for the next three years. Geneticists have discovered that Yun-seung has 48 chromosomes instead of the normal 46. The two extra chromosomes are autosomes that contain the genetic structure for his powers and abilities and "overrides" (as the geneticists referred to them) for his physical appearance, which seemed linked to his hair and eye color.

This turn of events would not be something the father could understand, fathom, and even accept. The father did not know how to cope with the changes he would have to make and was having a very hard time accepting his son for what he now is. This would create terrible friction in the family and would eventually lead to a divorce. His mother would then gain custody of Yun-seung.

Life in Los Angeles

Yun-seung started his teenage years with his mother getting a journalism job in Los Angeles with a magazine called KoreAm Journal that features prominent Asian American leaders, politicians, artists and entertainers, athletes, and also covers current events related to North and South Korea, Asian Americans and immigrants. Getting this job would allow Yun-seung and his mother to be able to live comfortably in an expensive city like Los Angeles and be able to go to the best schools.

Unfortunately, biological changes would continue to affect Yun-seung. His hair color would gradually change again. It was gradually changing from a light blue and into a white. Once again, he would be sent to the best geneticists in Los Angeles every damn day just to be able to keep track of him and be able to keep his abilities in check and to see if anything would be cause for worry or destruction.

Hindered by low self-esteem and by previous personal experiences, Yun-seung would find it very difficult to make friends whilst in Los Angeles. He felt a great disconnect with his peers. While he was never bullied here or even made fun of, he was always found alone. While very anti-social, Yun-seung was actually quite socially adept. When his mother always brought company over, they seemed to have been quite pleased with her son.

Life in Millennium City

Upon hearing about Millennium City, his mother Seo-yun decided that she wanted to visit the city of the future and lay witness to its everyday life. She also noticed that the number of Asians who operated here as heroes were fairly minimum, much less were there any Koreans. She did, however, meet a few and quickly got them for an interview for KoreAm Journal. Seo-yun saw this city as an opportunity for the magazine to keep updated on heroic and villainous type activities and how they affect the Korean (and possibly the Asian) community at large.

After returning to Los Angeles and proposing this idea to the Editor-in-Chief, Seo-yun was given a new position within KoreAm as a "Midwestern Editor" and was allowed to relocate to Millennium City itself. At the age of 14, Yun-seung and his mother moved to the city of the future on 12 August 2011. He would attend Raymond Johnson Private School while being here.

Living here would prove helpful for Yun-seung. He would be put in contact with the best doctors and geneticists in the city and they would help him hone and control his powers coupled with advanced gene therapy. During tests and evaluations, Yun-seung would continue to show great control and prowess with his ice powers. Later, his doctors would suggest to him that he could use his powers for the greater good. He was aware that crime is rampant throughout Millennium City and was urged to think about taking up a hero mantle. Weeks later, he would. He would save people from being kidnapped by corrupt organizations (i.e. PSI, Viper, etc.), being harassed by gang members, and recovering stolen goods. He would create the name "Glacierpoint" in relation to his powers.

Involvement with the United Nations

Keep in mind

Some things to keep in mind.

  • Doctors speculate that his mutation will continue to grow and at some point, his hair follicles throughout his body will eventually grow white. Currently, they are a shade of light blue into aquamarine.
  • Doctors are still uncertain whether or not Yun-seung's internal body temperature would keep decreasing. Currently, his normal body temperature is only 65°F/18.33°C. Any temperature over 70°F/21°C and it is considered that he is running a fever.

Tropes

Tropes are conventions and devices that are found in creative works. In this case, these tropes describe Yun-seung. His background, personality, appearance, they can all be identified with tropes. These tropes will be divided into sections.

Appearance

  • Mutants - Yun-seung was born with a naturally-occuring genetic mutation that allowed his appearance to alter into what it is today. He was born with jet black hair and dark brown eyes. Due to the mutation, his hair follicles have changed into a light power blue color and his eye color has changed to an ice blue.
  • Elemental Hair - Having a very light powder blue hair color is related to Yun-seung's ability with ice.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man - During formal occasions, Yun-seung will dress handsomely in a tuxedo.
  • Man In White - And sometimes during those formal occasions, he will dress handsomely in a full white tuxedo.

Moral Compass

  • Culture Clash - Being from South Korea and only living in the United States since he was 12, Yun-seung is able to identify cultural differences between the others in Young Ascension. Some of their members, however, refuse to acknowledge this difference and get into verbal altercations with one another.
  • Forgiven But Not Forgotten - Stemming from his past, Yun-seung has the ability to forgive but not forget. If you asked him about his father and whether or not he'll forgive him, he's more likely to say yes. But he'll never forget what he did to him and his mother. This also holds true with people in Young Ascension.
  • The Golden Rule - One of things that was ingrained into Yun-seung as he was growing up was this. "Treat others the way you want to be treated" is the best way to describe this. This holds true to this day.
  • Good Feels Good - Self-explanatory. Yun-seung was first hesitant to be a hero of Millennium City but once he saved several people from PSI, he felt good that they no longer had to suffer.

Personality

  • Selective Obliviousness - There are certain things that Yun-seung just refuses to acknowledge. Some of those things are insufferable people and anything have to do with love. Not only it is selective, but it is intentional. It has a lot to do with cultural differences.
  • Cannot Spit It Out - Things seemingly having to do with relationships are things that Yun-seung just cannot talk about. Feelings of these types are something that Yun-seung just cannot get out, and will just flat out avoid.
  • Beware The Nice Ones - While Yun-seung can probably be the nicest person in the world, mess with people that are important to him and prepare for total meltdown.

Background

  • Asian And Nerdy - A common stereotype about Asians (particularly the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, and Filipinos to a lesser extent) is that they are academically one step ahead than everyone else. Despite having been absent from school for many days (collectively) due to his mutation, Yun-seung has kept a 4.0 grade point average from elementary school onwards. Some say that this is perhaps due to a cultural difference between Asians and the rest of the world. In addition, Yun-seung also plays video games and is very, very good at them. He particularly enjoys fighting games, RPGs, and first- and third-person shooters.
  • Disappeared Dad - At the age of 10, it was clear that there was a mutation within Yun-seung. Unfortunately, his father somehow felt shame in the family and believed that he helped create and bring to this world an abomination that is his son. His father would soon divorce his mother and would never be seen or heard from again.
  • Cunning Linguist - Currently at the age of 16, Yun-seung is fluent in English, Japanese, Mandarin and Taiwanese. He is also proficient (though not exactly fluent) in French, Italian, and Thai.
  • Friendless Background - Due to his visible mutation, Yun-seung never made any actual friends while growing up both here and in South Korea, neither does he believe he has any friends right now. Both at school, and perhaps with Young Ascension.
  • Young And In-Charge - Being the first to arrive and be notified of the initiative, Yun-seung is currently the de-facto leader of Project Young Ascension.

In-Combat

  • An Ice Person - Ice is wholly considered Yun-seung's power. He can create something small from ice shards and icicles to something a lot more gigantic like ice walls, ice shields, and even ice storms and avalanches.
  • Flight - Yun-seung's mutation also allows him to create cold air and allow him to fly.
  • Kill It With Ice - While Yun-seung has never taken another life, his ice constructs have been seen to be... sharp and pointy.

Heavy Rotation

Had it not been for his mutation, Yun-seung always dreamed of being a Korean pop star. Unfortunately, he believes that he can only get as far as listening to their music.
