A Brief Explanation

Heavy Metal is a character that I started playing in the Heroes Unlimited rpg. Most of her information will be presented here, as there isn't much more to her to explain like with some of my other characters. She was just a lot of fun to play and felt like translating her here.

A Brief History

Molly Maguire always felt more at home on the streets. That's not to say that she had a bad childhood. In fact she grew up pretty comfortably in a upper-middle class Irish family. But she always seemed to fit in naturally on the streets of Detroit, or rather Millennium City as it was called when she was old enough to roam the West Side. She was such a fixture that she was able to get into places that her age shouldn't have allowed her to be. At sixteen she was bartending alongside another woman at Sharrera's. At seventeen she decided that she wanted to take up DJ'ing at a small club uptown. No one really ever questioned things, she just always seemed like she just...belonged.

Her parents seemed to let her explore things the way that she wanted to. She never got into trouble or committed any crimes so it was never a concern...not until one night when she was DJ'ing. Over a particularly heavy mix a fight broke out in the club, which had been home to several small street gangs. Gunfire erupted on the floor and trying to find cover Molly got hit by an errant bullet. Or she should have at least. The bullet struck her in the head and she dove to the ground screaming. When she stood back up everyone stopped and stared at her. Her skin had turned to metal and she was several inches taller.

She ran from the club as the police were arriving and she had to answer questions, not quite sure what had happened and still midly in shock from the whole experience. She didn't tell her parents right away but found herself needing to when the story hit the papers about the shoot-out. She experimented over the next couple weeks and found that she could control her transformation with some practice. She found that she was phenomenally strong and near invulnerable in her metallic form. She also found that she had to adjust her wardrobe a bit to accommodate her transformations. After shredding several outfits and one particularly embarrassing incident with a dress she finally found the combinations that would work the best. After she graduated from high school her parents decided to move to south Florida and she decided to stay and take up crime fighting, starting with the street gangs in the West Side. She now enjoys her double life, sometimes DJ'ing in her metal form.

Personality

Molly is a very street-smart and outgoing person. She's mostly fearless, having been around what most would consider the 'worst' that the streets have to offer. She naturally seems to fit in on the streets. No one really messes with her because she just seems to belong wherever she goes. She just has one of those personalities. She's very outgoing, fun, and a bit of a party girl. She DJ's at a small club uptown and it tends to show through in her performances and the crowds that tend to show up on the nights that she's working. She also has an 'Irish Temper', something that she jokes that she got from her parents, even though she never actually saw either of them yell or fight. She jokes that it must have skipped their generation and she got all of it.

Powers

Molly has been classified as a Metal Shifter. She can transform into a metallic form. This form adds about 500 pounds and seven inches to her height. She also finds that she's phenomenally strong, having lifted a bus one day fighting crime. She's also nearly invulnerable, having taken rocket blasts, bullets, grenades, and having cars and the aforementioned bus thrown at her.

This isn't to say that she's invincible however. Her powers are only active in her metal form. She's still as human and vulnerable as anyone else in her normal form.

The Present

Molly has kept pretty well below the radar as a hero, calling herself Heavy Metal and mostly sticking to cleaning up the growing street gangs in the West Side. The Purple Gang and the Red Banner Cult have begun to fear her, trying to set up ambushes. They've successfully ambushed her several times, but not gotten anywhere, as he metal skin deflects the bullets and takes their swords and magic with ease. But honestly it's been lonely work, her small area of work keeping her out of contact with a lot of other heroes, so she's recently applied to be part of a super group.

Trivia

  • Molly has several people that she's practically grown up with that she uses as contacts to get information from. Even as a hero these people will supply her with information when she asks. So she always seems to have an idea of what's going down on the streets.
  • Molly took the name Heavy Metal from a comment someone made after one of her shows that she DJ'd in her metal form before becoming a hero.
  • She catches some flak on her costumes as being skimpy and revealing. her costumes are out of necessity to accommodate her transformations. She's gone through more clothes having to unexpectedly shift forms, and so sticks with things that can take her extra bulk and height.
  • There's a picture floating around, somewhere of one of her exploits where she was wearing a normally short, tight dress. She found herself mostly naked...around a crowd...with reporters present.
  • Molly's metallic form doesn't seem to be affected by magnetism. She doesn't carry a magnetic charge if exposed to it. However she conducts electricity amazingly well. In fact it could be considered something of a weakness as it'll arc from her to people close around her. it doesn't effect her, but could hurt those within several feet from her.
