Dean Weir is a man living life on the edge and struggling to make it through to the next meal in his stomach. Considered a soldier of fortune, he's made a very minor and nearly unimpressive mark upon the world. Growing up around the occult and exposed to things that have left him dissociative to majority of the world around him, Dean seems to be an average mystic mercenary.
Dean is sardonic, rude, and abrasive to anyone he comes across. He is also quick to anger, stubborn, and never misses a chance to use as much vulgar language as possible. In this regard, Dean is similar to the stereotypical 'bad boy' delinquent. However, even in cases where he cannot win or is on the brink of death, Dean possesses an undying will and refuses to give up. Beneath his gruff exterior, however, Dean does possess a softer, more compassionate side. He chooses to keep up his public front because of the path he chose - for survival. He does genuinely care for certain people, such as the homeless or the wrongly accused.
When he was young, Dean lived in a monastery with other children around his age. He (along with the others) were watched over by the occultists the monastery was dedicated to, the Crimson Dusk Initiative. At some point, some of the other children became gravely ill and Dean decided to try and care for them the best he could. He slowly became something of a big brother to the other children which caused the elders of the Initiative to take notice of his presence more prominently. Soon following, he was taken from the others and raised to be taught with hopes he would join the Initiative someday. Fate, however, played another card and upon the day of his ceremony the monastery was attacked. Their rivaling sister order, the Crimson Dawn Movement, nearly destroyed everyone inside with their abrupt and extremely fast act of violence. Luckily, Dean was among one of few to actually escape death, but at a cost. He lost half of his right arm and under the quick thinking of the sole surviving elder of the Initiative, gained a replacement from a summoned entity. Dean fell unconscious during the summoning and later awoke within a clinic in civilization. From there, the rest is unimportant history while he slowly entered a world of cutthroat contacts and wet-work.
Dean is a blood mage of the minor degree. Knowing only the basic cantrips taught to him by the Initative, his strength truly lies within the Marionette Graft. The forearm and hand replacement resonates of high and distinctive magical energies due to its origin. It belonged to a creature summoned by an elder magician to save his life which served as a conduit for the Initative's highest level spells. It possesses a blood pool that Dean is able to tap into to further enhance his magic as well as (when empty) tap into external sources of blood to absorb for storage. The blood, when used, within the Graft passes through a high level sigil.
As a freelance magician, there are necessary skills Dean has acquired to make even remotely any success within the field of work. These include a physically healthy body, basic knowledge of hand-to-hand techniques, general knowledge on how to use weapons, as well as knowing the quintessential basics. During his time tending to the children his age within the monastery, he gained basic know-how on wounds and how to treat them as well, giving him minor first aid experience. Alongside that, he took an interest in vehicles and learned how to operate and maintain their usage through mechanical work.
