Idaten is the last remaining survivor of the Ikazuchi Clan. Now left to wander the world on his own, Idaten now seeks to make a name for himself and the memory of his clan.

Origins

Early Life

Odeon Fujiwara; Idaten's former teacher prior to the Ikazuchi's extermination.
Ryosuke Yui was born to a tightly knit, traditional ninja clan on the isles of Okinawa. The Ikazuchi Clan, having remained isolated on their own island, The Ikazuchi lived untouched by civilization or pollution, maintaining outside contact and supply via boats to the more populated islands of Japan. Their narrow ties to clients from outside consisted of concerned citizens who needed guard service or private-eye work done. Though the isle of the clan had various merchants and fishermen, Ryosuke was born to a family of warriors; he would grow up to be a ninja, as decreed by tradition.

Ryosuke trained under the clan's chief sensei, Odeon Fujiwara. Trained in the way of using the katana and shuriken, Ryosuke grew to become an accomplished warrior. However, even after Ryosuke had completed most of his training at the age of 20, Sensei Fujiwara still deemed him unprepared for the field of work he would fulfill. To do his work, he would need to study the sacred scrolls of his clan, which contained Ninjitsu techniques that edged into the realm of the supernatural. To read these scrolls would require concentration and patience; things Ryosuke had nearly ran out of at this point.

In the following months, the island was ambushed by ARGENT, seeking to claim the island by force and to gain extra land. Many of the clan's greatest heroes tried to resist their takeover, but all were culled by ARGENT's superior technology, including Sensei Fujiwara. The only one who dared escape from the island by boat was Ryosuke; the very last remaining member of his clan. He had not only dishonored his clan by leaving them to die, he had also left behind the scrolls of his clan; now he would never know the secrets to his clan's art!

But Ryosuke was not one to give up. Perhaps ARGENT recognized the value of the scrolls; perhaps he could fight through their forces and regain his honor and dignity as a brave warrior. In any case, he knew he was not ready to undertake such a task. Ryosuke fled to mainland Japan, taking up the alias of Idaten - partially to avoid suspicion from any ARGENT agents that might still be after him, and partially to punish himself; the name roughly translates to "Great Runner".

World Tour

Idaten's following years were spent in 'training', slowly making his way around the world to the west and offering aid as a guard or mercenary; just like the clan would have hoped him to have acted.

His first jobs began in China, defending citizens in Beijing from undercover Yakuza agents. What was most uncertain was why the Yakuza began to see value in mainland china, and why their trail seemed to lead further west, inland. As it turned out, ARGENT had been setting up lodges in the farm steppes of the Chinese nation illegally. These lodges were some of Idaten's first forays into mainstream hero work; though he was never officially recognized for his work, he had learned valuable techniques in his first fight.

Continuing west, this trend continued. By the time he had reached Turkey, he had become skilled enough to fend off up to 7 ARGENT mooks. In the countryside of France, he found a large, lost guard dog, who he adopted as his sidekick, "Shiroi". He scarcely left any trail behind him, but his impact in where he worked was far from trivial.

Idaten's travels came to an end when he arrived in Millennium City, the home city of ARGENT. Infiltrating their base carefully, he made his way to their archives to search for the scrolls of his clan. After hours of fruitless scanning, hiding, and re-looking, Idaten gave up. He settled into Millennium City with the money he had made and left his life as a ninja behind him, using what remained of his technique to serve as a stuntman in films.

Back in the city

Further south, events were stirring up in Roosevelt City. Dr. Voltsz, a resident of the city, had just received knowledge of a terrorist plot to detonate a Singularity Bomb in the city, and she would need all the help she could get to look into the city's secrets. The Doctor ended up calling Idaten in his home, and he agreed, but how did she manage to single him out? Practically no one has heard of him!

As it turned out, Idaten had actually had a hand in helping out the E-Team. An incident back in Cologne, Germany, where Idaten had managed to rescue Scout, convinced Voltsz to keep an eye out for such a ninja. When she and Scout had seen some of the out-take footage from Foxbat in Space, a Millennium City-filmed movie which featured Idaten as Foxbat's combat stuntwork, Scout managed to recognize Idaten's moves and urged Voltsz to take action.

Idaten went back into action, taking his blades, shuriken, and his trusty dog with him on a road trip to Roosevelt City. In the following years, he served as Voltsz's reconnaissance and intelligence agent, snooping silently around Roosevelt City and gathering data from both the city's villains and the city's law enforcement.

Due to the loss of nearly all his heritage, Idaten has grown to become apathetic. Once hot-headed and determined to be one of the best of his clan, he now has the bitter satisfaction of knowing that he's succeeded. Idaten has otherwise become self-assured of his tactics and techniques, and is rarely worried about most things that do not go to plan.

Idaten's apathy is only a surface trait, however. Inside, he feels deep shame if he is the one to fault up a plan or make a mistake, and usually seeks to isolate himself in such situations. When involved with other people, however, he seems perfectly well-adjusted and supportive of his friends. Idaten is tri-lingual in Japanese, Chinese, and English.

Idaten has a soft spot for Haiku, as well as other philosophical sayings when a situation calls for it. Most of his colleagues really hate him when he does this, and the complacent affect he extrudes when reciting his words probably don't help.

Combat Specifications

Idaten is only as strong and fast as a physically fit human, but his proficiency in his technique make him quite potent.
Idaten's weapon of choice is his Katana and Wakazashi. Utilizing these weapons in close-range, he can swing his blades at alarming speeds of up to 73 miles per hour, cutting straight through thick objects such as logs or clay without any hesitation. He dual-wields his Wakazashi, and prefers it greatly to usage of a single sword due to its greater flexibility in combat.

Idaten can also fight enemies from afar using his Kunai. Preferring these Shuriken to the traditional star-shaped ones, he finds them less prone to accidentally cutting through his bags and much easier to conceal. Though he's been known to poison-tip his Kunai against targets he is only meant to incapacitate, Idaten prefers to close distance between him and the enemy as soon as possible; throwing Kunai only does so much for him.

Idaten can also call forth help from his pet dog, "Shiroi". The dog has no unusual traits and largely serves as a decoy for when Idaten uses his techniques to go into hiding. Shiroi is perfect for serving as trap bait for Idaten's ambushes. If you see Shiroi without his owner, it usually means you're about to be in for a lot of trouble.

Idaten's skill is quite finite; he does not know any of the supernatural techniques his ancestors had developed. Furthermore, he is only rudimentary trained in the way of stealth. Indeed, he has trained himself to be much more a proper warrior rather than an assassin-for-hire, and while it does put him at further risk as a recon unit, it has better implications for his survivability when he is caught.

Idaten can lift 250 pounds and sprints at a speed of 48 miles per hour. He can jump 29 feet into the air.

Something else

Idaten hasn't changed a lot. All he really got was a palette shift.
  • My 9th 40. Idaten has solidly been a dual-blades charater.
  • Despite being a ninja, he has never used the 'sneak' ability in the Martial Arts tree. That honor goes to a much later character.
