Cole is a high school professor with a grant in energy studies. When his project blew up at Ravenswood academy it gave Cole his powers. After what happened with his project he barely had any money but bought material to make a suit for himself. Because of his job as a superhero Cole misses his kids games, family dinners, home late at night, and because of all this Cole's wife thinks he is cheating on her because he can't tell her the truth. As he is trying to keep them all safe he is missing life in the process which is missing his kids games, family dinners, and also having to apologize because he kept someone from being mugged or worse... Cole lost his grandfather in the battle of Detroit. Since he has lost his grandfather he is paranoid of losing everyone else. Cole's grandfather raised him, Cole looked up to his grandfather and idolized him because he was a hero. Cole's grandfather was the strongest man Cole ever knew, and then before Cole knew it his grandfather was dead. The thing that motivated Cole the most was living up to his grandfathers beliefs and making them a reality. The first was assuming the mantle from his grandfather. Then he recreated his grandfathers experiment which granted him superpowers. The accident killed some people but gave Cole his powers. So he is bound to help others, it's his duty. He is motivated to help strangers because of the unexpected cost, and the heavy burden of receiving his powers. Now He is joined by other like minded heroes to continue his crusade. The fact that his grandfather, who had similar powers, died protecting the city makes the burden of guilt even greater because their is the implicit fear that he may not be strong enough. And sharing his secret might involve him in the secret explosion of his creation so he must keep it hidden. Cole is looked to as a force of nature, embodiment of natural aspect, and also the embodiment of order and law.
