Background and Origin
I used to be a zombie, but I got better ...
I was a just a gumshoe private detective making my money catching rich husbands in bed with their mistresses. That's when I met my "loving" wife. I always knew she was after more than my heart, but truth be told, that's exactly what she was after. She seduced my young foolish heart into loving her and then on our wedding night she cut it right out of my chest ... with a dagger.
It turned out she was a witch and member of The Coven looking for immortality and to get it she had to cut out the heart of one who willingly loved her. She still has it, sitting in a magical jar still beating and sustaining her life. The process turned me into a zombie, unable to die while my heart still beat. My soulless husk becoming her favorite target of humiliation and scorn.
Although normal and mundane before that night, my true spirit was deeply bonded with strong magic, the reason she was drawn to me in the first place. It took some time, how many years I'm not sure, but eventually my consciousness returned and I awoke from the dead, only this time I wasn't ordinary anymore, I was infused with magic.
Now I relentlessly pursue the destruction of evil and more specifically her. But to destroy her I must also destroy myself. A price worth paying to see her end.

General Perception
The MidKnight Serpent is a mysterious hero known to strike in the dead of night, aloof and withdrawn. He shuns media attention, wearing a mask across his face for "the benefit of the public" and yet does not hide his true name. Some wonder if he is beyond worldy retribution having risen from the dead in the city morgue on more than one occasion. Many public servants question his motives and methods but they cannot argue with his results. When a villain learns that MidKnight Serpent is on their trail, they wrap the shadows of the underworld around themselves a little bit tighter hoping he will move on to other prey.
