Prelude: The Dark

A baby cry in a dark hollow cell, a woman screaming in the distance while nurses hold her down and hold her close to keep her from lashing out, as the pains of labor strike her. The air was hot by candle-light, and the screams of the woman bounced off of the cobblestone walls. A sigh of relief, but the silence does not come. The baby cries continue, but there is a slight laughter alongside it. But only for a short while. Then the true horror begins.

The dangling of keys and then the loud screech of a metal hinge turning. The midwives move out of the way of the bulky male form that enters the prison cell that holds the Light Fae he found. He stared at them all with an ice cold, blue eyed stare and motioned with his head, "Leave us..." The midwives scurried to the door, ducking their heads in servitude to their Lord and Master.

The woman looked up at him, eyes tired from the pain of labor, but bright with the fruit of birth. She held the blanketed form of her new, crying daughter. Slowly, he knelt in front of her and stared at her. He reached forward and smoothed the fresh blood from the small infants forehead. "Female... this was not... predicted..."

The woman scoffed and rolled her eyes at him, pulling the infant away from him, "Not everything has to be predicted for it to matter..." She looked down at the young girl in her arms and let out a slow sigh, rocking the cooing child some. "... She has your eyes..."

He let out a quiet chuckle before standing and staring down at her. "She must not know I exist, Isabella. No one can know that she is the fruit of my loins. You and she would be executed by the Light. And that would start a war that I am not willing to go through... yet..."

Isabella let out a chuckle that was ice cold, even for the blonde haired woman. "I do not plan on telling anyone of this trist. I cannot have that on my family. Not only would it result in our deaths, but it would result the death of my honor." She looked up at him and gave a stern stare, "And I have lost enough honor by bedding yo-"

"Enough." He turned with a loud whoosh of his cape and gave her his back as he held the handle to the door of the cage. The dark Lord let out a loud sigh and turned his head to glance back at her, "Under your bedding is a key. You will be able to escape from my prison with no problems. Come up with a story of your escape, one that is believable. Make them believe that the stress of the escape pushed you to labor. I am sure your," he snarled the word, "-husband- can see to your protection and care."

She stared at him before sighing and very slowly standing, placing the child on the cot and moving to him, "You had your chance with me... We both knew that it could not last... It was La Soshain... We were young an-"

"And the trist did not end there. None of us could stop it." He finished for her before turning his head to look at her, "But I will... and am now. This will be our last encounter. The child-"

"No. Stop calling her that. She is yours as much as she is mine. You will name her."

He chuckled, knowing that tone all too well. He quietly thought a moment before turning to look at the tired and hurting woman. Such strength, he hoped that his daughter would have that same strength. "Name her... Kenziara... After your mother... She deserves a strong namesake..." He then leaned down and quickly, and passionately, kissed the smaller woman.

The kiss began as quickly as it ended, leaving her standing in pain and alone in the lonesome and cold cell. She returned to the cot and picked the small infant up. She looked down at her and gave a quiet little smile, "Kenziara... such a beautiful name... With a name like that you will be destined for great things, my love... So many great things..."

Welcome to the Jungle

Growing up was hard for young Kenziara, who quickly grew to hate her name after it started to become one that was said with venom, if not from her own mother but from her stepfather. Being from half of each fae court made trying to belong rather difficult if not impossible. Despite her heritage, her mother dragged her to each gathering, each meeting, trying to get her to mingle with her own kind. Kenzi would have none of it. She finally gave her mother a proposition: Let her live a normal life and she will attend monthly meetings. Her mother agreed and they soon moved to Millennium City.

She started off going to Westside High, making only a few close friends, whom she'd spend the majority of her time with. During this time, she came into her own magical prowess and started to study other forms of magic. She invested her life into it.
