Nameless, the forgotten emperor.

Nameless remains an enigma to most mortals and immortals alike. His history is as vast as the planet itself, having lived over the course of millennia. Old as he is, he has remained mainly unnoticed throughout his life, mainly because
Nameless had a name once, that is something almost all scholars can agree on. But somewhere along the line his Truename was erased from existence. No one knows how or why, not even Nameless.

Nameless has existed for over forty thousand years. He’s seen the rise and fall of Takofanes, the sinking of Lemuria and the rise of the human’s so called “Gods”.

In the beginning, he was a thaumaturgist. His magic was that of seals, sigils and summons taken from old forbidden tomes locked away in libraries across the globe. Nameless had a yearning for forbidden knowledge, he studied the forgotten rituals of lichdom and created his own phylactery just as Takofanes had done, his ambitions soon brought him great power through large swaths of lands. Under his rule there was a thousand years of prosperity in his kingdom, the people were happy and the land hummed with life. It was during this time that his obsession with the Qliphothic realm and the secrets it held just out of his grasp.
For years he toiled, creating binding after binding, ritual after ritual in order to somehow achieve the goals he so craved. In his obsession, Nameless had devised of a plan to shift his entire kingdom into the Qliphothic realm and expand his modest empire. Toiling with a feverish intensity, Nameless created a ritual to suit his desires. On the eve of one of the largest celebrations his kingdom had ever seen, Nameless set his plans into motion, creating a vortex that indeed dragged himself and his people into the Qliphothic realm.

Nameless, despite his arrogance, was not powerful enough to contain the magnitude of the ritual and he lost control. Twisted by the nature of the Qliphothic realm, the ritual destroyed his empire and transformed Nameless into the form he is today; a creature made up of swarms and pestilence, who’s form is held up from that of a warped skeleton. The fate of his people? Each and every one of them was transformed into one of the insects that makes up Nameless’ body, to die and be reborn day after day and week after week in a cycle of madness and poignant harmony.

Left on the verge of insanity Nameless wandered the Qliphothic realm for hundreds of years. His phylactery kept him from dying and his new form protected him from physical injury. Centuries came and went, and little by little Nameless clawed his way back into sanity. During his stay in the Qliphothic realm, Nameless entreated with the infamous Kings of Edom, for he had become something very similar to them. An entity that can never be defeated or destroyed. He could only be avoided, misled, or trapped.

It’s not quite known the extent of Nameless’ wanderings in the Qliphothic realm, or exactly how he escaped. It is theorized that at some point he got to close to the being known as Quemetiel and his truename destroyed as a result. How he resisted being fully consumed by Quemetiel and in turn Solipsist is also a mystery, but the theory would explain what happened to his name. If it was consumed by Solipsist, it simply ceased to exist. Why Nameless lived on after the destruction of his truename is hard to say. It’s possible it’s because his soul was already lost to the Qliphothic realm, or perhaps it was the collective will of the hundreds of thousands of minds he has making up his form. Whatever the case, Nameless is virtually un-killable because the universe simply doesn’t know he exists in the first place.

Nameless’ reemergence into the “normal” realm was largely unnoticed by the denizens of the planet. For another few hundred years he roamed, going from place to place and continent to continent. He was mainly apathetic to many of the crisis’ that plagued the globe, he defended himself if attacked but remained recused from any side. Instead he focused once again in the study of thaumaturgy and forbidden magics.

It wasn’t until the formation of the United Nations that his interest was peaked. Contrary to popular belief, Nameless is and was never an evil being. He despises evil and cruelty for the sake of enjoyment, though people note that he will often not hesitate to use inhumane methods against those he deems unworthy of living. The United Nations gave him a hope that one day a utopia like the one he had created thirty thousand years ago would span the globe. So when approached by UNITY to help their cause, he didn’t hesitate at the opportunity. Not truly a full member, Nameless was kept in the shadows of UNITY, always being told that the world wouldn’t understand him and his methods. Years of being used by UNITY as a tool of destruction put him in conflict with the poster boy superheroes of UNITY. He was finally expelled when he came to blows with and almost killed Doctor White and her husband Doctor Black over an argument about his participation in UNITY.
Nameless continued to lurk in the shadows of the U.N. and UNTIL for a few more years when he was approached by representatives of Project Hecate with an offer of membership. Once again he accepted, only this time he was used for his knowledge and zeal, not strictly his destructive capabilities. To this day he serves with his fellow members of Project Hecate.

Personality wise, Nameless is brusque and can be quite hot headed. He often believes himself to be infallible and invincible. While he cannot be killed, he can be defeated and forced to retreat or reconstitute elsewhere, which sorely bruises his ego. When his allies are threatened or challenged, Nameless becomes even more brash in his manors. He cannot abide the condescension of his peers by anyone other than himself, and he will rush to defend any member of Project Hecate from slander. He wouldn’t admit it, but he’s grown fond of everyone he works with and hates to see them trivialized by people lesser than himself (pretty much everyone in his opinion).

In terms of abilities, Nameless is the self appointed lord of swarms and pestilence. His millennia of study has given him access to many spells and seals of a thaumaturgic nature and his time in the Qliphothic realm has made him a foremost expert in the subject. He can control and communicate with all manor of insects, and is able to see out of their eyes and know their exact location. His consciousness is spread amongst his insects acting as almost a puppeteer, controlling the hundreds of thousands of minds with the force of his will. If Nameless’ body were ever destroyed, he could simply move his mind to another insect elsewhere on the planet and recuperate. Even if hypothetically if every insect on the planet were destroyed he still wouldn’t be killed, as his soul is still trapped somewhere unknown. Until his mind, body and soul are reunited, and his Truename reconstructed, Nameless is essentially immortal.
