Netherstrike is a character (out of many) from the game, Champions Online. He is 23 years old and resides in a dinky studio apartment on the Westside neighborhood of Millennium City, Michigan. He is a meta-human who seemingly had normal parents but as always, there is always more than meets the eye. He is a melee-ranged DPS hybrid by game mechanics. The original creation of this character can be seen here, as it was driven by the creator's liking of mutants.

Life's Beginnings

Netherstrike was born as Albert Drakinsky on July 28, 1989 in what is known as "Sin City," or Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born to mother Suzanne Drakinsky and father Travis Drakinsky. Unfortunately, Albert's parents would get a divorce just before his first birthday. His mother is an undercover agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was rarely home due to her job. This forced the father to not only have a job of his own, but to take care of Albert. As one would expect, this would not bode well for the father. Because of their differences, the father would file for divorce and would want nothing to do with the one he helped bring into this world. After the divorce was finalized, the mother was awarded full custody of Albert.

It would seem like Albert and his mother would never stay in one place for too long. After another few years in Vegas, he and his mother were forced to move to Arlington, Virginia. His mother would, of course, would work off the FBI headquarters in Washington, DC. A year later, he would move to New York City, and again in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania another few years later.

Because of the constant moving, Albert would find it difficult to make friends. It would get to the point where he would just stop trying since it would all just lead to disappointment.

At the age of 13, Albert and his mother seemed to have finally settled down in St. Louis, Missouri. There was a time where his mother was out on an assignment and had to go out into the suburbs. It was here where his life would change for the worse. He received a phone call at 12:30 am during the night of September 27, 2002. It was his mother's coworkers, Alan James. He said he was coming over to explain what happened and why his mom is not coming home. While his mother was across the state line over at St. Clair, Illinois, she had gotten into a face-off with a criminal they have been trying to catch for years. Unfortunately, their criminal was fatally shot. As was Albert's mother. Due to confidentiality agreements, Albert would never truly learn what happened. This would effectively make Albert an orphan at 13.

Of course, Albert did not want to go anywhere else. The only real companion he had was his mother and the only one that was important to him, Albert lost. This Alan James came to a close second. In any case, Albert was forced to go into the foster care system. Entering this system would not bode very well for Albert. Once again, he would be bounced around from foster home to foster home. As usual, it would be very difficult for Albert to make friends at school, and even get along with his foster brothers and sisters and foster parents.

Trial of Will

Once he was 16, he somehow ended up with foster parents who live in Millennium City, Michigan. Getting here, Albert knew he wanted to stay here. This was a place where he thought he could belong. These foster parents would prove to Albert that these were keepers and would finally be happy with them. Along the way, he uncovered a secret about his foster parents. They were both costumed heroes of the city and have even worked with The Champion known as Defender, in which Albert would later come to admire said Champion and his teammates. In that same year, however, another twist of fate would overcome Albert.

Waking up during the morning of November 13th, Albert would immediately be blinded by all the lights. An inky smokey cloudy after-image would engulf him. On top of all of this, Albert would feel the most immense pain ever. His foster parents had no idea what to do so they took him to the nearest hospital. Thankfully, it would not take long for doctors to figure out what was wrong with Albert.

He was, and is, a meta-human. There seemed to have been changes in his genetic make-up that is allowing him to have powers. Further studies would suggest that these powers are related to what is known as "The Netherworld." At this stage, the powers are still developing and his biology is having a hard time adapting and acclimating to the changes. The pain would get so bad that they literally had to put Albert in a contained room that had absolutely no light in it. There had been several instances in where Albert just wanted to end his life because of this. The pain had become so unbearable that Albert would admit that this had to be one of the most traumatic experiences he has ever gone through. Having time to one's self, he thought about what has happened so far in his life. The constant moving. The inability to make friends. He felt like life had no meaning for him. But his foster father convinced Albert that he cannot give up and further convinced him that he had the willpower to do it. To keep going. To get through this.

So Albert didn't give up. He wanted to live. He was convinced his deceased mother would not want him to give up. She had died protecting people. She had died protecting Albert from people like the one she just had to put down. Well... that was enough for him to keep going. He was going to get better. And get better, he will do. Having confessed that he knew of his foster parents' secret, they helped Albert get better and after three months, he was finally allowed to get out of the hospital under the caution that he not expose himself to a lot of sunlight.

Eventually, Albert would gain full control of his powers. And when he was able, he was mentored on how to be a hero in Millennium City. He was also mentored on how and when to use his powers, and when not to use them. Presently, he dons a dark, mysterious look and with the help of his abilities in mixed martial arts, he has become a hero known as Netherstrike.

Currently, he is a part-time student in the local community college as a junior and works full-time as an administrative assistant for the local television station, WCOC.

Capabilities

At the age of 16, Albert's powers would awaken via a genetic mutation. His DNA make-up would undergo a change that would somehow give him powers. Powers that gave him access to shadow, or dark-based abilities known to come from a place called The Netherworld. This change would not come easily for Albert as it put him under an immense amount of pain. Especially when he was exposed to anything with light. Even infrared. Through some gene therapy and exercises, his body would slowly acclimate to the change. After being in the hospital for over three months, he would finally be released.

His foster parents, being heroes of Millennium City themselves, would help him channel his powers in his own will. This would surprisingly not take long. They would also teach him when not to use his powers, and not to use his powers for self-gain. Of course, there were a few instances where he'd abuse his powers but not to the point where he was hurting or otherwise harming other people.

Growing up, Albert was always physically active. While in junior high school, he would always play basketball or soccer with the other kids. He did the same in high school and even tried out for the basketball team when he was a junior. Five years ago when he started going to college, Albert became interested in mixed martial arts and joined a local gym that had coaches teaching boxing, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. To this day, he is still a part of that gym and sometimes even teaches the beginners how to properly warm-up and how to properly deliver punches and kicks.

Albert would later find out that psychics would not bode very well with him, especially ones that would try to establish any psychic links. He would discover that he can block any said links if he wanted to. He would also discover that he could also allow any psychic link that he wants, and cut it off just as easily. Sharing this with his foster parents, they would come to the conclusion that Albert possesses something called an indomitable will. Perhaps this isn't really related to his powers, as much as it is Albert having the complete capability of being stubborn.

Personably

Despite his past experiences, Albert is perhaps one of the friendliest people you will meet. He will give you the time of day, though he will expect to get the same in return should he need it. He is pretty much your go-to guy if you need advice or just need someone to listen to. He'll hear you out.

Albert is also one smooth customer. He'll flirt with you and to some, they wouldn't even know it. And if he knows that you don't know it, he'll make you realize it once the conversation's over. Don't mistake him for being a player, however. While it may seem like it, he just plays the field and he plays it fairly well. If Albert is not single, he will make it known. However, this will not stop him from flirting with people. He just won't touch.

Aside from all that, Albert also has his flaws. Albert is one stubborn guy. Once he has made up his mind about something, he sticks to it. To the bitter end. Mostly. One could even say that it almost takes an act of god for him to change his mind. This has gotten him in trouble quite a number of times and perhaps why, while growing up, he had trouble getting along with people.

Typical for his star sign (he is a Leo), Albert can also be quite obsessive and possessive. What's his is his. Especially when it comes to romantic interests and significant others. If you're seeing Albert, he wants to be the only person you're seeing. Otherwise, Albert will be quick to leave. And quick to anger as well. In conjunction to his possessiveness, Albert can also be seen as hypocritical. While he feels it is okay for him to flirt with others, he doesn't believe it is okay that his romantic interest/significant other to do the same towards other people.

Noteworthiness

  • In addition to the powers he is known for, he is also known to be a bit acrobatic in battle.
  • He has declared that gender need not matter. He will hit on gals and guys with equal opportunity, though cautiously.
  • If you get on his bad side, expect to stay in it. For good. There is also no way of getting out of this, either. Well, almost no way...
  • Albert absolutely hates it when people try to talk to him through a telepathic link. If he doesn't know you and you try to do this, he will cut your off and will not let you back in.
  • Albert burns water. He has never been allowed to step foot into a kitchen. Because he lives by himself, he never ever cooks.
  • Albert has always admired and respected the Champions. Especially Defender.
  • Albert has a very keen sense of his surroundings wherever he goes. He is also very observant.
  • No, Albert has no idea who his father is, or where he is. He really doesn't care, either.
  • Albert had always led a physically active life, especially as a teenager while jumping from foster home to foster home. He was always playing some sort of sport growing up whether it be basketball, soccer, or tag football.
  • While quite adept and talented at mixed martial arts, Albert has never participated in any boxing or MMA matches.
  • Much to his dismay, Albert has a strange attraction for both Psimon and Medusa. But because they are villains, he likes to mess with them instead.
  • Because Albert possesses an indomitable will, his mind is extremely difficult to scan, look into, and much less control. There's pretty much no taking over his mind and controlling him. Feeding him thoughts, that sort of thing.
  • Albert can speak in a perfect British accent, and you'd think he's a native. If you asked him to elaborate on it, he'd go further to say it's from Southampton. He speaks this way to people he doesn't trust. Among friends, he uses it to crack jokes or even to make a point.
  • Albert is also learning how to speak Korean in his spare time. Thanks to the powers of the internet, he discovered Korean music throughout cyberspace. Because of that, he has gained a desire to learn how to speak the language. He knows common phrases such as "Annyeong haseyo" (Hello!), "Gomabsubnida" (Thanks.), among others.
