Thanks to the later erasure of any clues to his former identity, how he funded his projects is a mystery, but what is obvious is that at some point, he achieved his goals, casting off his body like a sullied coat and placing his brain into a vat of greenish life-support fluid that keeps it forever healthy and alive. Obsessed with immortality and victory over the petty needs of the flesh, the man now known as Overthinker became a genius in the fields of engineering and cybernetics. Linked into the systems of his laboratory, whether by technology or some kind of technopathic mutant power, he became a being of thought, free to pursue his research with no distractions. Ever again.

But seclusion, with little sensation of the outside world beyond pure data, became too much to bear. No, he needed a connection to the world after all. It started simply. Sensors, to replace his lost vision and hearing. Robotic legs, to carry him around. Hands, to manipulate the world he had sought to abandon. And, after a long absence colleagues began snooping around to investigate what happened to him, weapons, to silence them. And then greater weapons, to defend himself. Thoughts turned to improvements. Separate robotic units, so that he wouldn't need to personally risk himself. More weapons, to fend off growing threats. An armored body, when it became necessary to abandon his lab to the heroes and police that had begun to lay siege to it.

And then, in a backup lab, feeling the sting of poverty and lack of resources, his thoughts turned to schemes. Plots. No one would fund a brain in a jar. He would have to take money for himself. Yes, he decided that after a short time trying to make do with scavenged metals and secondhand parts.
