Overview

A timid, enigmatic mutant girl who spends a considerable amount of time projecting an astral form of herself. While always sweet and concerned for those she trusts, when circumstances are dire, she can become selfless will go to great lengths to protect innocent civilians.

Powers & Abilities

  • Astral Form -- Able to literally transform her body into psychic energy... this making her actual 'body' difficult to hurt. She does this by 'hitchhiking' (mind-riding) within the brain of another (human or animal) in close proximity. For all practical purposes, she is literally hidden within the mind of her host. Once "inside", she can project a 'ghostlike' version of herself to the external world (a ghostly aura of energy floats around her). Those not familiar with this trick, and those without any psychic detection, may be fooled into thinking this projection is the real Claire. It should be noted that Claire can not read the literal, specific thoughts or memories of those she's attached to (i.e. she can not scan people's thoughts).
  • Empathy -- Able to get general, emotion-based readings and impressions of those within a hundred feet of her.
  • Emotion Push -- Able to send general, emotion-based sensations and feelings into targets. This may catalyst various common emotions within a target, including delusions of pain, drowsiness, fear, anger, love, peace, etc. Feelings of fear will often take the form of hallucinations of monsters or ghosts.

It should be noted that while Claire uses these powers in combat against criminals, she has a strong ethical code and is careful about using her powers with friends, family, teammates, etc.

Backstory

Claire was a bookish girl; even starting as early as age eight, she would pour hours into books. Fiction, fantasy, and sci-fi consumer her until high school. Always a bit withdrawn, and feeling unaccepted by her peers, her problems would only get worsened once her mutant powers manifested: the ability to sense and influence emotions, and travel as a 'psychic being'. Dozens of instances of toying with classmates and the self-imposed backlash of guilt and regret over manipulating those unsuspecting... she's still never quite forgave herself for those years of development. To this day, her parents still don't know about her powers.

Bit by bit through college, she would carefully hone her powers through focused acts of help. She soon realized her powers could be used to help others, like a therapist, and would console some of the most distraught students she'd meet. She was beginning to awaken the greater potential of her powers, and started to quietly obsess and read about the exploits of superheroes.

After graduating from college (major in Psychology, minor in Philosophy), she moved to Millennium City... at first only to see first hand what it was like there, while secretly pining for a life as a hero. She would quickly realize just how dangerous such a path would be, and Claire has thus relegated her hero activities to small causes, preferring to stay in the shadows and receive little attention. Still being a bit shy, she probably wouldn't know how to handle it.
