Background
Aliz was born, or possibly made, in a secret science facility hidden somewhere in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico. A team of rogue geneticists designed her to be the next step in human evolution. Her physical abilities were augmented giving her much greater strength, speed and agility than her slight frame would otherwise allow. Added to this was a significant regenerative ability, allowing Aliz to recover from most injuries, given enough time. Many of her fellow recombinants died within the first year or so until the only two that remained were Aliz and the human-avian hybrid who would become her only companion through the dark years ahead.
This is not to say that the girl who would come to call herself Jamie was Aliz's only source of comfort or help. One of the scientists was at least slightly sympathetic and took the time to teach the two girls how to read and write and speak and think. However, Aliz always suspected that there was some unknown motive behind the man's supposed kindness. This feeling that no one was truly altruistic would stay with the young mutate even after her escape.
When she was about ten years old Ren's "caretakers" decided to continue trying to amplify her abilities; focusing this time on her senses. They were successful in augmenting her auditory, olfactory and tactile senses but when they tried to surgically enhance her vision something went dreadfully wrong. Even with her regenerative powers Aliz was permanently blinded, forced to rely solely on a heretofore undeveloped skill, her ability to sense vibrations in the ground and air. She had managed to keep this power somewhat of a secret until this point. This became much more difficult once she was forced to rely on it more or less constantly. This desire to have at least one thing of her own led to a habit of downplaying her ability to sense her environment.
For years Ren waited for an opening she could use to escape her handlers and leave behind the hell she was living in. Jamie, her partner in crime, was somehow able to get out before her, much to Ren's disappointment. She couldn't help feeling abandoned by the closest thing to family she'd ever known. At last, at the age of fifteen (or so) she got that opportunity. Whether it was an oversight or she was purposely allowed to think she'd managed an escape is unclear, nor did Ren particularly care. To her, just being out was enough.
What came next was close to half a year of wandering; time Aliz spent getting used to being on the outside and learning as much as she could about how the world worked. Eventually she made her way to Millennium City, the place that seemed, at least to her, to be a refuge for the abnormal. There she hoped not only to find a place to fit in but also a possible reunion with her long lost compatriot.
Recent Activities
Day job and hero work have kept Ren busy lately. Somehow however she's managed to find time to start searching for the location of the lab in which she was created. What she plans to do with this knowledge is unclear.
Personality
Ren is, in a word, complicated. Her upbringing may have left her bitter and jaded but she's determined to not let it show too much. A firm believer in letting the past stay where it is Ren has tried her hardest to keep an optimistic outlook. This has been made a lot easier thanks to all the positive experiences she's had lately.
While she can be selfish and reckless at times Aliz is nonetheless an individual who cares deeply for those who treat her well. For those that don't she can be spiteful and ruthless, though as of yet she hasn't met anyone in Millennium she truly doesn't like.
Abilities
Ren is stronger than someone of her size would ordinarily be thanks to her altered genes, although she is still much weaker than most metahumans. Her speed and reflexes are also enhanced. Rapid regeneration and strong senses round out her list of commonly held abilities.
What truly sets Ren apart from other heroes is also what has allowed her to remain so capable even after losing her sight. Ren has the unique ability to sense vibrations, both in the ground and in the air. In places with a great deal of sound or movement she can get a fairly good picture of her surroundings.
Appearance
Standing at 5' 2" and weighing a slight 108 pounds Ren is slim,but no longer unhealthily so. Her rather delicate features make it hard for her to look imposing when she tries to act tough. Her most notable features however are her bright white hair and faded green eyes; the latter being a big clue to her inability to see.
Allies/Affiliations
Young-Champions: Finally her goal has been met. She's officially a member, albeit low on the totem pole.
Immovable Object: Ren's best friend and closest confidant, excluding Jamie of course.
Kestrel: Fellow mutate and childhood friend.
Terra and Valk Arturo: Aliz's adoptive parents. A half-demon and a werewolf. Heroes have stranges families...
Brickfist: Though he's not all that much older Ren sees the hero Johnny "Brickfist" Hart as a sort of mentor. He's the one who's been training her recently how to fight and do all those other heroic things.
Phase Spider:Still technically an ally but Ren probably won't admit it since the falling out.
Lady: The half-valarian warrior Tealilia Wil-Ha is one of Ren's newest acquaintances. Although they have only met recently the two are already fast friends. Of course Ren always makes friends quickly.
