SvetaName.pngFull name:

Svietlana Fiodorovna Pokryshkina

SvetaName2.pngAliases:

Red Lily of Sakistan - (shorter - Red Lily) she doesn't like this moniker, as it was given to her by Russian military press during her participation in the Sakistanian civil war, as a morale lifting homage to the World War Two Russian fighter pilot Lydia Litvyak, "The White Lily of Stalingrad".

Vermilion - a nickname given to her by fellow soldiers because of her love to this color.

SvetaIdent.pngIdentity:

As an UNTIL operative - commonly known. She may be recognizable amongst the mercenaries and soldiers from war zones across the world.
As a crime-fighting murderous vigilante - masked and unknown.

SvetaJob.pngOccupation:

Member of spec ops Project 1691 unit of Russian army, delegated to UNTIL as a part of Russian UN contingent. Her primary spec is sniper or infiltration (in short, she's trained for dirty and precise work at occasions when lethal force IS needed).

In UNTIL Svietlana has little to do for most of her time. She's rarely called, except on occasions when organisation needs a bit more "ultimate" approach. For the rest of her time in UNTIL service she's charged with training new soldiers or with paperwork.

SvetaRank.pngMilitary rank:

Originally she was Starshiy Praporshchik (equivalent to the NATO WO-2 /OR-9).
After this rank was ditched with year 2011 military reform she was promoted (after all additional education and exams needed) to the Mladshiy Leytenant (equivalent to the NATO OF-1, ensign or junior lieutenant).
In 2013 she was promoted to Leytenant (equivalent to the NATO OF-1, lieutenant).

SvetaCharacter.png
Personality:

Svietlana is cold, uncaring, sarcastic, abusive, vengeful, and ruthless, if not outright cruel.

Loss of her family and mutilation suffered at the Gorky Bridge, painful treatment at the Project 1691, and participation in the subsequent wars left her emotionally burned and disillusioned with life. No longer she has any faith in humanity.

In military service she has no option, but to restrain herself and at least act like a good soldier and team player.
But in her private life there is no need for it, thus she can be extremely egoistic and self-centered. Her relationships are scarce and very often ended because Svietlana had enough, or simply was bored - with that other person left abused and emotionally scarred.

Amongst UNTIL soldiers Svietlana is both known and disliked for her sarcastic personality, also, for being cynical as hell. She's well known for her love to the color of orange red - from her civilian clothes to coloring hair when not on duty and not in uniform - this is known to anybody who worked with her, or heard about her.

A synthetic right arm and artificial eyes are also her signature feats. Especially the eyes, as they intesify that unpleasant feeling caused by her empty yet piercing gaze, typical for people who have seen and done too much in their lives.

SvetaVigil.png
Vigilantism:

When not in her UNTIL service, Svietlana tends to indulge in a rather peculiar "hobby". She takes her time as a masked vigilante, hunting and killing criminals.

Svietlana has no illusions. She knows very well that murdering people, no matter how evil ones, isn't a good act. For her, it isn't an act of justice but of control and protection. In her view, the world is cold, hostile and brutal place. If the innocents are to have any chance of surviving in this environment, somebody ought to take care of surrounding monsters.

Svietlana doesn't perceive herself as a hero. Nobody will thank her, and she knows it very well. But that's okay - after the war she believes that she's already doomed and beyond redemption - and if Hell exists, she earned every her moment there.

Svietlana doesn't hunt criminals like common thieves, or superpowered villains. Her victims are drug dealers, rapists, serial killers, or members of cryminal syndicates. Her methods are always harsh and lethal and the more morbid was crime, the more cruel will be her methods. She acts with assuption that the end justifies the means. Using explosives, poisons, sniping people from afar, or exctracting informations with tortures - everything is fine as long, as no innocent people are endangered during her hunts.

SvetaOrigin.png
Background:

An embittered child of war, Svietlana comes from small Caucasian Republic of Sakistan. One of the former republics of the Soviet Union, Sakistan is now a war-torn country where government forces backed up with Russian expedition troops are locked in constant struggle with various insurgent fractions.

She was born into a Russian family, representing a minority in Sakistan, and when the war broke out she lost a lot if not everything - her childhood, family... And some parts of her body. Eventually her wounds were healed with the help of her father's best friend - a high-ranked officer in the Russian army. He was important enough to ensure that she received special treatment as a "volunteer" of the Russian "advanced soldier" programme.

Svietlana is, despite her young age, veteran of both Project 1691 (modern Federal Russian attempt at using crippled people as volunteers for classified spec ops unit of cybernetic enchanced soldiers) and Russian intervention in "allied" Caucasian Republic of Sakistan. She participated in this bloodbath, thus she's the one of those UNTIL soldiers who saw all the dark and dirty faces of a real war.

Svietlana was delegated to UNTIL service when somebody in charge of Project 1691 wanted her mothballed and moved away from Sakistan, because being there began to leave bigger and bigger mental strain on her - this isn't known to anybody except a few people at Project 1691. This person assumed that UNTIL service will be less dehumanizing for Svietlana.

SvetaLand.pngRepublic of Sakistan:

One of the former republics of the Soviet Union, Sakistan is a small Caucasian country and in theory is independent since 2002. It borders Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Russian territory of Dagestan. In practice it's a part of the Russian sphere of influence.

Sakistan has very long history, akin to that of Georgia and Armenia. It was one of the first Christian territories in Caucasus, but it also has a very strong Muslim community, and even a local Zoroastrian leftover from the Sassanid period. It has a very mixed ethicity, so not very surprising, but it was never a very stable region to begin with. After fall of the Soviet Union and declaration of independence things are even worse.

Everything started to stir up in 2002, when first independent election was won by a pro-Russian president, mostly due to votes from largest cities and from Russian minority. This was strongly opposed by radical separatists from various factions, a few of them a rather extremist in their nature. The main point of offence was an ongoing presence of the Russian troops.

Russian reaction was a rather mild one - initial plan was to withdraw all troops to the Dagestan, as Sakistan was considered far too much trouble for its worth. In fact officials in Moscow were rather happy with getting rid of this territory for good - and keeping it only as an "independent" vassal state.

On 14 November 2003 everything changed. On the day of their withdrawal to Dagestan, Russian military contingent, containing not only military personnel, but also their families, was attacked during crossing the Maxim Gorky Bridge connecting two halves of the Sakistanian capital. This incident was later named as the Massacre on the Gorky Bridge and responsibility for this attack was almost immediately claimed by the Army of the Free Sakistan - a rather vocal and extremist faction.

This was first accord of the war. Not only the Russian Federation was forced to invade Sakistan - after all, Russian citizen were killed en masse, and it was not only a case of revenge, but also of not losing their reputation in the region - but also the invasion caused a rapid uprising of the remaining factions.

Now Sakistan is a country torn by irregular warfare and divided between a dozen of factions fighting each other. North of the country is controlled by the government backed up with Russian expedition troops, but all the rest is in constant turmoil. There are local guerillas from almost any Sakistanian religion and ethnicity and each one is trying to seize control over the entire country. There are also outside forces at play, making things even worse.

For Russia, Sakistan is a gordian knot. They can't withdraw without losing their face, but they are also unable to decisive victory in such environment. They also can't quench situation with an iron fist, because Sakistan is still considered an independent country - after all, officially Russia is only helping local government with restitution of legal order. The situation is pretty much hopeless and nothing indicates that this war may be ended in a predictable future.
