The tragedy of the battle awakened latent psychic powers within Clara, who subconsciously repressed clear and vivid memories of the event that only surfaced in dreams, stray thoughts, and volatile waves of emotion from the final moments of thousands of innocent lives cut short. As she matured, she had many emotional issues and had problems relating to other people. The only person with whom she shared a connection was her sister, and the two kept each other positive.
Growing up, Clara struggled with constantly hearing voices in her head and frequent night terrors. Too afraid to discuss the problem, Clara took to unhealthy methods of dealing with her issues such as self-harm. It was through this that she discovered, despite the sensitivity of her skin, she healed much faster than most people and almost never scarred. Clara was also able to learn concepts faster than any other person in her class; she was able to read on a twelfth grade level by the time she was eleven years of age. This widened the gulf between her and outside interaction.
When Clara was sixteen years old, she made her first and to date only suicide attempt. Unknown to her at the time, her typical feelings of loneliness and fear had been amplified by a nearby source, bringing her to a major depressive episode. Ultimately, Clara did jump but swiftly regretted doing so, the fear of death helping her rediscover her will to live as the more positive moments of her young life and thoughts of what could be drove away the despair and gave her hope. This manifested in her psychic powers breaking down the fall before she could hit terminal velocity or the pavement. Instead, she harmlessly landed onto the concrete before the eyes of her bewildered father, who had found her note and came to stop her.
Hope
Clara and her father returned to their home after the incident and she promised, both for herself and for her family, that she would never try to take her own life again. Now seeing a psychiatrist who specialized in powered teens, Clara finally got the help and medication she needed to balance her mental state. (to be continued...)
