Appearance

Nox is something you would expect to be right out of a classic nosferatu movie, standing at roughly six foot with an almost unhealthy, lanky body with long, taloned fingers. His head is similar to that of a bat, the eye sockets seemingly filled with only pure darkness. If he can see, it's probably not with his eyes. While monsterous, that does not seem to stop Nox from dressing in a rather formal manner, often garbed in some form of suit, usually either dressing like royalty or someone who intends to go to some form of dinner party. Unlike the rest of the Children of Amanrath, he does not seem to wear their skull symbol. He does not speak, not to people outside of the Children. To him, they're not worth his time. Whenever he does talk, it's an uneasing hiss, filled with malice. Not a lovely fellow to look or listen to, unless you're Spectral of course.

Activity

It's unknown for how long Nox has been acting as an officer within the Children, but he only began to show himself in late 2011, even then vary rarely. The magical community within America has come to suspect the sorcerer vampire to be responsible for the deaths of a handful of magi over the course of the last few months who were described to have been 'scared to death'. While there is nothing physical that points directly to Nox, he is one of the few sorcerers who uses fear as their primary weapon.

Notable Events

Chinatown Massacre

June 3rd saw an ominous, black cloud fall over Millennium City's Westside. Directly under the cloud the Children's 'pet', Bloodbath, began slaughtering members of the Red Banner cult while various ghouls of the Children kept watch. When Bloodbath was confronted by Bonesmith, Galatea, Quick Shrike, Particle Man, and Wavegirl, Nox watched on from the safety of his darkness, maintaining the cloud and using his magical abilities to create a hulk of mixed flesh from near by corpses to keep Quick Shrike and Bonesmith busy. It was eventually felled by Bonesmith. He left the scene, completely unnoticed, when Bloodbath escaped.

Powers and Abilities

  • Speed: Nox, while not being as fast as some of the more 'physical' of his brothers and sisters, is definitely nothing to be laughed at when it comes to speed. He cannot miraculously appear in place with speed alone, but is capable of keeping up with a car. While he is fast, he lacks the reactions to make full use of this in combat.
  • Heightened Senses: Nox, while not seeming to have any eyes, seems to have very acute vision as well as an impressive sense of smell, able to sniff out his enemies and spot them from miles as well, on top of being able to notice the smallest of details.
  • Shapeshifting: Oddly, Nox is limited in his shape shifting, only able to to turn into a cloud of bats. He may not have fully mastered his vampiric abilities.
  • Mentalist: Nox is a very talented mentalist, greater so than most vampires. He can easily control weaker minds but has been shown to penetrate mental defense and willpower alike.
  • Necromancy: With his Umbramancy and magic, Nox has a variety of ways he can revive the dead. From patchwork abominations to zombies, he's pretty damn good at it.
  • Arcane Knowledge, Supersorcerer: What he lacks in physical strength, he more than makes up for in his magical prowess. While it is unknown as to how far his knowledge stretches, he has shown to be very knowledgeable in summoning creatures from the netherworld's to do the physical work for him. A little known fact is that he is capable enough to become a candidate for Archmage.

Weaknesses

  • Blood: Basic stuff. Nox is a vampire. Vampires need blood to live.
  • Sunlight: His vampiric abilities become greatly weakened while in direct sunlight.
  • Symbols of Faith: Symbols of Faith can both daze and burn Nox upon contact, however this requires the one holding the symbol to actually have the faith to back it up.
  • Holy Water: Burns his skin on contact.
  • Holy Ground: Cannot walk on Holy Ground at the risk of death. Can only do so if the ground has been spoiled in some way.
  • Stakes: A stake through his heart will disable Nox until it is removed.
  • Fire: Vampires really don't like this stuff.

Associates and Enemies

The Children of Amaranth

The Children of Amaranth are a gang of individuals loyal to the Vampire Matriarch Asylum, and can be easily identified by their skull-like adornments, often worn on the chest or belt, much like their leader. The Children are universally blood bound to the matriarch herself, and serve as her standing army. Most of them are ghouls or thralled humans, but the higher up you go in the command line, the more and more vampires appear. The Children are equipped with standard munitions, often at or just above street gang level, and many of them favor blades over firearms. They mostly operate out of the San Sebastian Swamp in Vibora Bay, and are a major player in the underworld in the South of the United States. Outside of Vibora, they are rarely seen without their mistress at the helm, or some other lieutenant. Their exact numbers are unknown, but membership barely took a hit despite the failed assault on the Great Beast Bookstore in October 2011.

Nox is the Seneschal (Eldest Servant, Senior Officer) of the Children of Amanrath, placing him among the highest of the Children, just below the lieutenants; Spectral and Sabbath. Nox's primary duty as Seneschal is to act as the groups secret keeper, their own and other peoples. He deals mostly in the magical element of the Children, hoarding artifacts of Arcane nature, books of knowledge and occasionally training an Acolyte, should he find them worthy.

  • Asylum: It is unknown to even Spectral as to how these two met. What is known is that Nox respects Asylum like no other, looking up to her as a sort of elder sister.
  • Malyca:
  • Spectral: Nox's best friend, if he ever had one. When he is not locked away in his study like a recluse, he is usually found discussing things with Spectral, from trivial to matters of great importance within the Children.
  • Bloodbath: Nox treats Bloodbath like his pet, which he pretty much is to all the Children. Even so, he respects the brutish vampires strength.

The Cabal Inconcessus

Within the Children of Amaranth is The Cabal Inconcessus. This small group is made up of both ghouls and young vampires who have become students under the wing of Nox. Taught in the ways of magic that most would consider horrific and unimaginable, these mages, while not as powerful as their teacher, are a force to be reckoned with when acting together.
