"Who? Me? I'm just a time-traveling cop from the future who dreams of becoming as good as the King one day!" -Aleste
Aleste was born in 2099, in one of many potential Earth timelines. Hers was a world powered by funk and groove. Rhythm dictated life's pacing, while technology offered various commodities. If a noir Earth would be in black and white, a cyberfunk Earth would be overflowing with colors escaping their contours, proportions falling out of sync depending on angle. It looked normal to its denizens, but to us, it was as though Pleasantville had gained color and then cranked it up to 11.
After she had graduated from college, Aleste became a detective for the Neo Las Vegas Police Department. She was one of the best in her city, frequently getting high profile villains behind bars, but also becoming infamous for putting standard procedure second to results. Her only rule was never to let innocents get hurt. Public property wasn't innocent.
Despite a disregard for protocol, firing her was not an option. The media tried putting her in a bad light, but she was still a hero of the people and the NLVPD.
The world of Cyberfunk 21XX wasn't without real superheroes, though. And in turn, not without supervillains. Therakiel the Bright made a much later appearance than in our timeline and actually succeeded in his plan. As a last ditch effort, an experimental time machine was used to have a handful of individuals travel back in time to stop Therakiel from bringing forth the Apocalypse. Aleste was one of the chosen people, mostly due to her excellent detective skills which would aid in uncovering Therakiel's plan in the past.
However, the time machine did not work. Instead of transporting a person back in time within the same timeline, it sent them to a different point in time in a different timeline. Aleste ended up in our time and after taking some time to get her bearings, she made peace with the fact that she was stuck here.
Now, she fights crime in our world.
Powers and Equipment
Hurricane Mk VI
Aleste's main weapon is the Hurricane Mk VI. The primary output of this weapon is located in the bracers Aleste wears and is used to manipulate air and water primarily, although if strained, it can be used for earth attacks as well. The weapon is mostly used for subduing enemies with strong wind currents, but it is also able to create ice shards or electric blasts if necessary.
The weapon also allows the user to fly and teleport very short distances, although the rainbow trail Aleste leaves while flying is not because of the Hurricane Mk VI (see below).
Aleste comes from a very bright future, literally. In theory, any person from our time who would travel there would be subjected to an overflow of the senses, possibly to much to handle. This means that Aleste stands out when in our environment. Her movement leaves a very subtle rainbow trail, which is most noticeable during flight. Her eyes practically glow, a perfect reflection of her soul and one of the primary reasons she never takes off her shades.
Aleste is also an extremely healthy human. She is slightly more agile, intelligent, charismatic, but she is still human in the end and can take very little punishment before sustaining injuries.
Likely even more expensive than the Hurricane Mk VI, The Shades are an indestructible pair of glasses which have an optional HUD display. The display can be used for video and audio recording, targetting, determining the health status of persons observed, browsing the Internet and displaying various other information, from the current time and temperature, to displaying the names of people Aleste sees (if applicable).
Aleste has a wide-array of natural and trained skills. She is an amazing dancer and singer, an excellent guitar player, a very good detective and a nice cook. She also has an amazing fashion sense, or so she claims.
Friends and Allies
Are you a nice person? Aleste likely adores you then! No, really!
What Your Characters Might Know
((Please use the information presented here for IC interactions, rather than that presented in the sections above!))
Aleste comes from one of many possible futures. When she registered with UNTIL, someone coined the term "cyberfunk" to describe her time of origin and she has used it herself on several occasions since then. However, it seems that certain events that would have lead to such a future haven't happened in our timeline when they should have, so it is safe to say that wherever she is from, it's beyond humanity's reach at this point.
She was a detective in the Neo Las Vegas Police Department. In this timeline, she does her detective work as a private eye.
No-one knows her true age. However, it is known that she was born in 2099.
All tests and magical analyses have determined that she is an extremely healthy human, not a metahuman. This still causes confusion, as just by looking at her, it is clear that her eyes practically resonate light.
Thoughts and Views
Excerpts from interviews and conversations:
On the timeline she is in: Vampires, werewolves, psychos who dress as foxes! You guys sure know how to keep a girl busy, I'll give you that!
On music: I don't know, I never really try to think about it like that! It's like food and water: you want the quality stuff, but you need any kind. And you can't have the same thing over and over!
On superheroes: I am one now, right? Well, I think we're all fabulous! Well, most of us. [laughs]
On killing: Aw, dude, why you gotta ask the grim stuff? Killing's bad. Like, really bad. As a cop, sometimes you have no choice but to pull the trigger. I don't look at those times as highlights of my career and I never look forward to them happening again. I really hope they never happen, ya know?
On Elvis: The King, man, the King. Do you know why Queen called themselves Queen? Because they were only second to Him, and they knew it!
On villains: You got some pretty messed up wackos here, I'll give ya that. I don't know which ones are worse: those that belong in jail, or those that belong in an insane asylum.
On female rights: You guys still arguing over that? Damn, you're slow.
On the media: Aw, man, don't get me started on the press. You guys have it as bad as I did. [laughs] You wouldn't believe the headaches they gave my boss. He would be all: [she mimics a man angrily flailing his arms] "Aleste! You trashed two cars, blew up a warehouse, destroyed public property and endangered public safety while pursuing Defoe! The press is going to murder me!" I mean, forget that you stopped one of the city's biggest crime bosses, because the media is more dangerous than him! [laughs]
Aleste loves talking to everyone except for clearly bad people. Feel free to poke her anytime!
Want to dance instead of talk? Even better!
Her equipment is excellent for nonlethal subduing of riots or larger groups of enemies.
Have a case you want solved? She's not the best, but she's still pretty damn good.
What Others Say of Her
